PBR Canada Collegiate Performers of the Week

Every week, we'll highlight one hitter and one pitcher to be our PBR Canada Collegiate Players of the Week which is powered by Mizuno. This is the 8th week and we have two fresh faces who went off for their respective programs in Alex Bedard and Corey Jackson.

THE OFFENSIVE SIDE

Hitter of the Week
Alex Bedard, Southwestern Oklahoma State University

Background: Bedard, a senior from Levis, Quebec, has been spraying the ball all over since the 2021 season got started. The 6-foot-0, 180-pound outfielder is batting .464 through the Bulldogs first 13 games and is currently carrying a ten game hit-streak which is highlighted by a five-hit game last Sunday. SWOSU is currently 9-4 and Bedard is hoping his bat can help propel the Bulldogs on a postseason run in his final year.

Performance: Bedard started his weekend with a four-hit performance on Friday with a triple, 3 RBI and a stolen base, which made for nine hits in his past two games. After a 1-for-4 performance in game two, Bedard finished the weekend strong with another three hits in Saturday’s finale to go along with 3 RBI, a double and a triple. Bedard closed out the weekend with the fourth best batting average in the Great American Conference.

STAT LINE: 8-for-14, 2 3B, 2B, 3 R, 6 RBI, 2 SB

ON THE MOUND

Pitcher of the Week
Corey Jackson, Bellevue University

Background: Jackson, a right-hander from Calgary, Alberta, spent the 2019 season at UNC Greensboro following two years at Indian Hills and he was a vital part of the Spartans bullpen, pitching 57.2 innings. Now in his senior year at Bellevue University, Jackson has been dominant in 2021 and especially of late, as he’s allowed just one run over his past 23 innings pitched. To go even further, Jackson has struck out 29 batters in his past 16 innings while walking just six.

Performance: Jackson had his swing and miss stuff working on the weekend when he struck out 13 during his seven-inning complete game. He allowed just one run, five hits and two walks as he led the Bruins to their first of three wins on the weekend. It’s the second straight weekend that Jackson has pitched a seven-inning CG with 12+ strikeouts and one run allowed.

STAT LINE: 7.0 IP (CG), 1 R, 5 H, 2 BB, 13 K
