Nashville Rising Stars ID: Pitcher Reports

PBR Tennessee Staff

NASHVILLE, TN - The Nashville Rising Stars ID was held on Tuesday, May 30th at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. This event was an open event that consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2027-2028 classes from Volunteer state. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on at the event.

Today we will finish our content and scouting reports from the event, looking at all pitchers from the Nashville Rising Stars ID.

pitcher reports

Reid Bostic, Lipscomb Academy (TN), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 6-0, 155-pounds.
Delivery: High hand to start and break. Pitching sets up as a hitter and has hitting actions to his delivery. Athletic but can get stiff . Uses a lot of arm and does not have the feel for using his lower half completely yet. Leads well with his hips but lacks some present drive with them. does not completely finish over his front foot and lacks some pelvis rotation but should come as he grows into his body. Whippy arm action that has arm speed with present life. Threw some solid breaking balls that had late downward breaking action. Inconsistent with them and it's just feel at this point
Arm Action: RH. Long arm action, 3/4 arm slot. Arm is loose as its coming through release. Consistent release points
FB: T77, 75-77 mph. FB plays best low in the zone. He has good downward angle on his fastball making it hard for hitters to get on plane with the pitch. Backspins the ball well T2141, 2055 average rpm.
CH: 64-67 mph. CH plays down in the zone. Looks just like his FB, potential to get tons of weak contact. Will play best when he uses it in FB advantage counts to keep get bad swings. Doesn't show much armside fade but more downward action T1830, 1775 average rpm.
CUT: 62-65 mph. Cutter plays best when it's thrown off his FB, it has a different movement profile so it will be a tough adjustment for hitters. Cutter get weak contact as it looks like the FB. Can be thrown to both sides of the plate
ATH: 7.75 runner in the 60. 1.75 and 4.20 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Lane Estes, Chester County (TN), 2027
Positional Profile: RHP/3B
Body: 6-0, 165-pounds.
Delivery: 14 yr old LHP- Nice arm action with present use of his lower half, fastball is heavy and gets on the plate quick. Present feel for his changeup with dying action that matches arm speed and body movement. Blends those well together. Not so much arm side run to it yet but has feel. Has good feel for his lower half and uses his body well. Feels up the zone with his fastball with on line stride and easy arm action. Lacks present feel for breaking ball and had tendency to wrap around it but will have feel as he develops.
Arm Action: RH. 3/4 arm slot that has late release.
FB: T83, 81-83 mph. FB plays up in the zone as well to the lower half. Has a lot of carry and jump to it with carry. Will overpower hitters, especially up in the zone T1923, 1805 average rpm.
SL: 66-69 mph. SL has great downward shape to it with some glove side tilt. Has a solid feel for landing it in the zone and even landing it right off of home plate. Will be a plus pitch for him as he really understands how to get on top of it with leate release. T1821, 1782 average rpm.
CH: 72-73 mph. CH plays best when all 3 pitches are being thrown for a strike, with the armside fade on the CH and the gloveside movement of the cutter, it will be hard for hitters to adjust because all 3 pitches look the same then move differently. T1314, 1189 average rpm.
ATH: 7.78 runner in the 60. 1.79 and 4.22 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Levi Shipp, Home School (TN), 2028
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-10, 145-pounds.
Delivery: Short arm action with small leg lift. Loads legs well to create momentum down the mound. Present feel for fastball
Arm Action: RH. Short arm action, standard 3/4 arm slot. Gets good extension
FB: T69, 66-69 mph. FB will play well low in the zone for a strike, showed good feel for the pitch. Staying down in the zone will let his other pitches work off his FB. Has the ability to work in and out of the zone T2033, 1978 average rpm.
CB: 57-59 mph. CB has good depth. CB will work best when he lands it for a strike consistently. It's a different look compared to his other two pitches, and will get lots of called strikes if he can land it. T1863, 1705 average rpm.
SL: 60-62 mph. SL has good shape to it, will work best if it follows up his FB. WIll get swing and miss as it sweeps across the zone. shows good side to side movement T1844, 1783 average rpm.
ATH: 7.97 runner in the 60. 1.83 and 4.33 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Nate Simmons, The Webb School (TN), 2028
Positional Profile: 1B/RHP
Body: 6-1, 200-pounds. Big kid with present muscle mass and has a chance to feel out with age and development. Athletic ability present
Delivery: Big body, trying to his size to his advantage. High intent delivery, Small leg lift that leads his body down the mound well. Quick delivery with many moving parts will create deception from it
Arm Action: RH. Shorter arm action, throws from an over the top slot; as he grows into his body and gets stronger his arm speed will catch up
FB: T71, 69-71 mph. FB will work best at the top of the zone. Creates good backspin on the ball with high induced vertical on his FB. WIll create lots of swing and miss on FBs up in the zone. Has offspeed pitches to match this FB profile T1849, 1820 average rpm.
CB: 61-65 mph. CB has good shape, doesn't have great feel for it yet. Trouble with consistency. CB will play the best when he throws it off his FB, will get lots of called strikes on it. As he gets more arm speed and more comfortable with the pitch it could be a put away pitch as it gains more depth to it T1837, 1793 average rpm.
CH: 65-67 mph. Ch has armside fade, will work best thrown to LHH. Can get swing and miss if thrown right as it fades away from them and thrown after a FB. T1514, 1408 average rpm.
ATH: 8.32 runner in the 60. 1.89 and 4.53 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
