Jeff Scholzen
Utah Scouting Director

We announced our Week 3 PBR Utah Power 15 team polls yesterday, so we now release last weeks PLAYER and PITCHER of the WEEK.

We take a look at two players who were recent Preseason All-State event attendees, that had big weeks and we also give recognition to those that were in the running. I also give mention, as we will each and every week, other notable performances, as many were deserving and we could have named Co-Players in each category.

Player of the Week

Mason Strong C / OF / Snow Canyon, UT / 2021

2nd Player of the week honor in 3 weeks

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

Strong leads the state in hits, doubles and RBI's. Week 3 was the second time, that he finished the week with 10 RBI's or more! The cleanup hitter for the #1 ranked team in the Utah Power 15 Rankings this week. Strong is getting MLB scout looks and is a BYU signee.

AB 13 R 2 H 6 HR 1 RBI 12 2B 2 BB 1

Other Notable Performances

Trey Evans (lF) / SS / 2B / Crimson Cliffs , UT / 2024

an advanced freshman hitter that's the leading hitter for the '24 class. Evans hits in the 3 hole for the #10 ranked Mustangs in the Utah Power 15 rankings. 2nd in the state in 2B's and near the top in runs scored for all qualifying hitters, despite his freshman status!

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

Mayze Mosher 3B / C / Snow Canyon, UT / 2021

The middle of the order run production is locked down with Strong and Mosher for the #1 ranked team in the Utah Power 15 rankings, and Mosher a College of Southern Nevada signee, is having a tremendous Sr season and at his current pace, he is looking at an All-State type of year!

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 15 R 4 H 6 RBI 11 3B 1

Luke Anderson OF / 3B / Snow Canyon, UT / 2022

Anderson the leadoff hitter for the #1 ranked team in the Utah Power 15 rankings, has been a force and catalyst at the top of the lineup and has drawn 16 BB and stolen 11 of the 17 SB's for the Warriors. The BYU commit is having a tremendous year for the Warriors!

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 10 R 8 H 4 HR 1 RBI 5 2B 1 BB 6 SB 4

Canyon Kutch C / 3B / Crimson Cliffs, UT / 2022

The versatile multi-position player, is having a quiet but successful season, and is a leader and steady run producer for the 2nd year program, that's ranked #10 in our latest Utah Power 15 rankings.

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 10 R 2 H 5 RBI 6 2B 2 SB 1

Logan West OF / Crimson Cliffs, UT / 2022

West a 6.9/60 runner and a converted catcher, who is running down balls in CF and showing his athleticism. Is starting to heat up with the bat, as he was hitting .545 after 7 games a year ago, when the shutdown occurred. Hitting in the 2 hole for the Mustangs, West is uncommitted and won't be for long come summer, when college coaches can hit the road again without restrictions!

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 12 R 6 H 4 RBI 1 BB 3 SB 2

Petey Soto Jr. SS / OF / Crimson Cliffs , UT / 2023

Soto is a quick twitch, smooth defensive SS with some flair and a very strong arm. Has pull power and is among the state leaders in HR's and providing the "X-Factor" type production that Coach Justin Abbott put on him in the winter. Soto is one of the top players in the '23 class and will become a household name with Utah baseball fans before all is said and done!

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 15 R 8 H 5 HR 2 RBI 4 2B 1 BB 2 SB 1

Grant Scholzen SS / 2B / Hurricane, UT / 2023

One of the top '23 hitters, if not the best pure hitter in the class. Scholzen started the season 0-6 with 2 BB in the 1st weekend of the year, hitting in the 3 hole, but a move back to his customary leadoff spot, ignited his bat, as he has gone 10-19 over the last 2 weekends, to get to an even .400 batting avg. Known for his bat, Grant is providing leadership at the SS position as a sophomore, and is talking to a number of 4 year schools, and should be in demand even more, once the summer comes and coaches can get back on the recruiting trail!

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 8 R 3 H 5 RBI 4 3B 1 BB 4

Ty Johnsen C / Pleasant Grove, UT / 2021

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 13 R 3 H 7 HR 1 (Grand Slam) RBI 6 BB 6

Fisher Ingersoll SS / 2B / American Fork , UT / 2022

One of the top players in the '22 class, and one of the best football player in the state (WR) as well. The BYU commit is having a very good junior year, and providing leadership out of the 2 hole in the lineup for the #4 ranked team in the Utah Power 15 rankings. A lean and athletic 6-3 185 Lb SS that hits LH'ed is a rare commodity and in my 2 looks of him last week, he went off and was a spark plug, that saw the Cavemen of American Fork go 4-0 on the weekend in the very talented and competitive Red Rock Classic, played in St. George!

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 11 R 3 H 6 HR 1 RBI 4 2B 1 3B 2 BB 3

Kaden Carpenter CF / LHP / American Fork, UT / 2022

The physically imposing 6-5 220 CF can run balls down in CF and glides around the bases with long graceful, yet powerful strides. Covers ground when he's underway. Had a big week with the bat and sat 88-90 in his outing vs. state power Bingham at Dixie HS last Saturday. Uncommitted, but once summer hits, he won't be for long. A member of last summers Brewers Area Code Underclass team.

The closest player to Mason Strong for Player of the Week honors!

Ryder Robinson SS / 2B / American Fork, UT / 2023

Only a sophomore, but hitting in the leadoff spot for undefeated and ranked #4 in our Utah Power 15 rankings. The brother of CSI masher, Crew Robinson, and the son of former CSI All-American and Cardinals farmhand, Darek Robinson. Ryder is 6-1 165 with huge feet and hands and projects to be 6-2, 6-3 and around 200 Lbs when all is said and done. A switch hitter like his father, he has a feel to hit and knack of getting on base and scoring runs. Colleges jump on this kid!

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 12 R 10 H 5 RBI 4 BB 1 SB 1

Cole Kershaw 1B / 3B / Jordan, UT / 2023

The "Baby Bull" had another strong week with the bat and his near 100 mph exit velocities, play in game and can hit them high and deep to the RCF gap to the RF line. Strong as an OX and colleges should pay attention now!

Stats for the Week of March 22-27:

AB 10 R 3 H 6 HR 1 RBI 3 2B 2 BB 2

Blake Stanger LHP / 1B / Woods Cross, UT / 2022

Stanger had a really good 2 games for the week, for Coach Paul Ayala's crew. Blake a Preseason All-State attendee, is off to .429 start in 6 games this spring with 4 of his 5 extra base hits coming last week.

Dylan Williams SS / RHP / Woods Cross, UT / 2022

A solid week for another Woods Cross hitter, as Williams started to heat up last week to bring the numbers into striking distance of .300.

Pitcher of the Week

Ashton Johnson LHP / OF / Olympus , UT / 2022

2nd Pitcher of the Week honors for Johnson

Doesn't throw overly hard, as his FB is 82-85, but he misses tons of bats with tailing life, plus command and an abv avg feel to pitch. He has given up only 1 run in 21 near flawless innings of work. Colleges jump on him now!

Other Notable Performances

Jordan Pace RHP / 3B / Pleasant Grove, UT / 2021

In a masterpiece performance against state power Bingham, to keep the Vikings undefeated and ranked #3 in our Utah Power 15 rankings, Pace also drove in 2 of the 5 runs with a 5-2 victory. The FB 85-89, went to another gear in the 7th, as he was 87-89 and was working quick and smelled the finish line, by striking out the last 2 hitters of the game, as I was in attendance!

Payton Gubler SS / RHP / Desert Hills, UT / 2022

The BYU commit, was on his "A" game on the mound with his 87-91 mph FB and knee buckling CB. He pitched flawlessly and also had a decent week with the bat. Committed as a two way player, and with another year to go in HS, he has time tio step up his game to another level!
