Updated Illinois Power 25 Team Rankings

This is the sixth installment of the Illinois Power 25 Team Rankings. Brother Rice holds strong at No. 1 for the second straight week in the Power Rankings. The Crusaders have now won 24 straight games after going 4-0 on the week.

Below is a breakdown of the movement in this week’s Power 25:

Climbing

+ St. Laurence (22-4) – Went 5-0 on the week with statement wins over Providence, Loyola and St. Francis. Now No. 3 in the Power Rankings.

+ St. Charles North (22-3) – Also, went 5-0 on the week and No. 4. Swept three games from Elgin and knocked off South Elgin as well. Shutout three opponents on the week.

+ Plainfield North (19-2) – Currently, one of the hottest pitching staff’s in the state. Swept three games from rival Plainfield South, allowing two runs in the three victories.

+ Edwardsville (24-4) – Climbed one spot to No. 7 after going 5-0 on the week. Big wins over Glenwood, Lockport and Alton.

+ Waterloo (19-4) – Went 4-0 on the week including two shutouts. Now No. 11.

+ Moline (22-3) – Took two games from Alleman and defeated Rock Island 6-4.

+ Lemont (17-5) – Offense led the way last week scoring 38 runs in three wins on the week.

+ Peoria Notre Dame (22-5) – Took two games from Normal Community and split with a hot Champaign Centennial squad. Also, knocked off U-High.

+ Prairie Ridge (23-5) – One of the hotter teams in the state, went 5-0 on the week. Defeated Grayslake North twice and Hampshire twice.

+ Champaign Central (21-5) – Went 3-0 on the week with a convincing 9-4 victory over Rochester.

+ Oak Park (16-6) – Went 3-1 on the week with wins over Glenbard North, Glenbard West and Downers Grove North.

Sinking

+ Mount Carmel (20-4) – Dropped three spots to No. 6 after a 3-1 week. Split with St. Rita and defeated St. Francis twice.

+ St. Rita (20-6) – Went 2-2 against tough competition last week. Split with No. 6 Mt. Carmel and lost to No. 1 Brother Rice 8-2. Solid 15-7 win over Loyola.

+ Providence (18-7) – 2-3 on the week. Lost two games against No. 1 Brother Rice and lost to St. Laurence 11-2. Swept two games against Marmion.

+ Sandburg (17-3) – Dropped a spot to No. 12 after a 3-2 week. Lost to Lincoln-Way North and got shutout by Bolingbrook.

+ Normal Community (20-5) – Went 0-3 last week. Lost twice to No. 16 Peoria Notre Dame and Limestone 3-2.

+ Naperville Central (19-6) – Dropped from No. 13 to No. 23 after going 1-2 on the week. Lost both games against rival Naperville North.

+ Plainfield South (17-8) – Dropped three spots after a three game sweep by rival No. 5 Plainfield North. Defeated Blue Island Eisenhower 5-4.

New to the Top 25

+ No. 20 Nile Notre Dame (15-6) – Jumped into the rankings after a 5-1 week including two convincing wins over a then ranked Nazareth squad. Also, knocked off Benet twice and split with Carmel.

+ No. 21 St. Joseph-Ogden (26-3) – 13 straight wins since the middle of April. RHP Dalton Parker, now the career wins leader, has been leading one of the better pitching staff’s in class 2A.

+ No. 25 Rockford Christian (22-3) – The Royal Lions have been streaking as of late. Went 4-0 on the week including a 2-1 victory over Rockford Boylan.
