Daily Round Up: Russellville vs Gwatney Chevrolet

Gwatney Chevrolet fell to Russellville American Legion 6-1 Tuesday night. Russellville used two big innings and the big right arm of 2015 RHP Mark Moyer to pull out the conference victory.

Gwatney scored on in the 1st when 2015 OF Courtland McDonald hit a leadoff single, stole second, stole third and scored on a passed ball. 2016 LHP Brandon Hawkins, shut out Russellville for the first 3 innings, locating his fastball 79-81 mph with arm side run on both sides of the plate, mixing in the occasional breaking ball 65-68 mph to keep Russellville off balance.

In the top of the 4th Russellville scored 3 runs on 4 hits highlighted by a Frost RBI double. The three runs is all Moyer would need. Moyer dominated the game striking our 10 plus hitters. He pounded the strike zone with his fastball 87-90 mph with late life through the zone. He put hitters away with a sharp slider 77-80 mph.

This is a conference games and these two teams will square off again on Thursday night at Arkansas Tech University.
