Baseball season is finally here. As of Friday, March 12th, the AIA high school baseball season is officially off and running. Throughout the spring, PBR will be posting Daily Roundup with some scores and select performances from past games.

BIG WIN FOR GILBERT

The Gilbert Tigers took on a strong Desert Mountain team on Wednesday night. The Tigers took it to the Wolves right away scoring 3 runs in the first followed by a 6-run inning in the 3rd and not letting up from there. The offense was led by senior, OF Jay Evans (Benedictine commit) who had a double and HR in the game with 4 runs & 3 RBIs. 2022 RHP Isaiah Maes got the start on the mound and went all 5 innings, earning the win. He allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits & 3 walks while striking out 3 batters. 

BRONCOS TAKES UNDEFEATED BATTLE

Poston Butte stays undefeated with a huge win against Canyon Del Oro who was also undefeated before the game started on Thursday. Both teams play in 4A but can really compete with anyone in the state. The Bronco's ace, 2021 RHP Colton Vercoe was on the mound in this one. He went 6 innings while not allowing a single earned run while striking out 6 batters. CDO was able to get two runs across the board on Vercoe on two hits, 3 walks and one error. Vercoe has 5 wins on the seasons with an impressive 0.48ERA while striking out 41 batters in 29 innings pitched on the year. 

CANYON VIEW PUTS IT ALL TOGETHER

Canyon View had a strong day all-around versus Sunrise Mountain on Thursday night. Their offense had 14 hits in the game. In the offensive filled game on the Jaguars side, they had 5 players with multi-hit games. 2023 3B Keegan Landis stood out the most going 3 for 4 on the night. He hit two triples & a double while scoring 3 runs & batting in two. 2023 RHP Connor Mattison (Long Beach State commit) also had a day on the mound, starting & pitching 6 innings. Mattison gave up two earned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters. He has 38 strike outs in 22 innings innings pitched this season. 2023 RHP Matthew Hart came in to close the door in the final inning, pitching a clean frame with two strikeouts.
