Preseason P25: Shadow Ridge

Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

Players in Arizona have been eager to compete for their high school programs and it feels as we are getting close. The Arizona Interscholastic Association has announced that opening day of the 2021 season will commence on Monday, March 1st. Programs will allowed to begin practicing while holding tryouts in an official capacity before moving on to live competition. The PBR Arizona staff will start to begin its 2021 season coverage starting with our Preseason Power 25 rankings. Over the next two months and leading up to opening day, we will be highlighting some of the top programs in state in our team previews. PBR will also be publishing its state Power 25 rankings that will be updated every Monday once the season begins. Throughout the season, PBR will be pumping out coverage, highlighting individual players, games, rankings, scouting reports and nominating a player of the week. PBR looks forward to getting out there this spring to see some great baseball.

Our Preseason Power 25 rankings coverage starts today.

OUTLOOK:

Shadow Ridge comes into our Preseason Power 25 rankings at No. 9. We feel that this team has a chance to be one of the most improved teams in the state as the season gets going. As a young team in 2020, it would have been interesting to see what they could have done with a full season. They return almost all of their key members and that experience alone should improve this team greatly. The Stallions arguably have the top pitching staff in the state. We could go on forever highlighting all the arms on this squad. Senior, Connor Dougal (Paradise Valley) runs his FB into the upper 80's and should be a big contributor on the mound. Juniors, Austin Humphres (Arizona State) & Dillon Orr (Tennesse) are two of the top pitching prospects at their class in the 4 corners region. In all, they return 9 pitchers to this squad that gives them some of the most depth on the hill. Offensively, if they can put some added runs on the board, they are going to be a hard to team to beat in 2021. We would expect seniors, Treyton Tarver (Arizona Christian) & Jackson Brenna (uncommitted) to lead this team with the bats and provide some juice in the heart of the order. They both also contribute on the mound. This is going to be a different squad in 2021 that we expect to make a run.
