We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across California. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action and the Third Annual Prep Baseball California Spring Invitational.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across California. Each week we will be releasing our Power 25, Players of the Week, Diamond Notes, Podcasts and much more.

Our 2024 preseason coverage continues today.

High School: Clovis West Golden Eagles
Head Coach: Kevin Patrick
CIF Section: CIF-CS, Division 1
Conference League: TRAC - Tri River Athletic Conference
2023 Record: 13-16 (8-7 3rd in TRAC)
Team X Handle: @cw_hardball

Team Strengths: We have a veteran team with a lot of depth, especially on the mound. Our pitching and defense should be a strength and I've been pleased with our offensive growth in the offseason.
No. of Returning Starters: 7
No. of Returning Pitchers: 4 of top 6 return, plus we added a couple transfers who will contribute.
Areas of Improvement: Offensively we need to be more consistent and be better at finishing games. We lost a bunch of one run and extra inning games last year.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Experience is littered throughout the entirety of the Eagles’ roster, highlighted by Fresno State commit and four year varsity starter, ‘24 Tyler Patrick who held a 2.33 ERA last year, while also being a threat with the bat. Cal State Bakersfield commit, ‘25 Micah Raygoza will look to build off an up-and-down sophomore campaign as he now enters the back half of his prep career.

This Eagles squad also have a number of uncommitted prospects that seem primed to make some big waves in the TRAC this year. ‘24 Marc-Anthony Carroll is another four year varsity starter on this team, and he returns a team high 15 RBIs from last year. Outfielders ‘24 Dominic Decanio and ‘24 Zak El Dahabi are two other seniors that are expected to provide consistency in the Eagles’ lineup. Juniors, ‘25 Matteo Martinez, ‘25 Isaiah Sanchez, and ‘25 Luke Gonzales are three others that will offer experience in Clovis West’s lineup.

‘26 Adam Plascencia is a veteran sophomore to know and Coach Patrick expects him to move into a starters role this year. On the mound, ‘24 John Jimenez, ‘24 Brody Santos, and ‘24 Jake Turley provide depth within their rotation and they will see some huge innings on the mound in their senior campaigns.

Some newcomers to this squad are ‘25 Nolin Santillan, who is a transfer from Immanuel where he logged a 7-3 record on the mound while also stealing 19 bases, and he will be making some big two-way contributions according to Coach Patrick. A transfer from Clovis, ‘26 Landan Borboa will log a number of innings on the mound this year, too, said Coach Patrick. While it is unclear exactly how much they will contribute this year, if any at all, ‘27 Julian Manos and ‘27 Riley Steward are a talented pair of freshmen in the Clovis West system.

Coach Kevin Patrick’s Expectations: “We have a veteran team with 14 Seniors and 17 returning varsity lettermen, including 7 starters. We expect to compete for a TRAC and Section Championship.”
