INSIDE THE 2023 RANKINGS: PITCHERS

PBR CA Scouting Staff

The 2023 California pitching stable is stocked with quality arms with eight of the top ten pitchers already committed to Pac-12, Big-12 and SEC schools. Oregon jumped early with commitments from the top left-handed pitcher and right-handed pitcher in the state. Today we focus on the top ten pitchers in California that lead a deep class of pitching. We are excited to continue following the prep careers of the pitchers we have already seen, and look forward to seeing new arms make jumps into future rankings.

Toby Twist leads the pack as the top pitcher in the state. The left-hander’s fastball already sits comfortably in the upper-80s and it won’t come as a surprise to see his name associated in first round discussion come 2023 MLB Draft. Vanderbilt didn’t hesitate with right-hander Duke Ekstrom garnering an early commitment from the former Team USA pitcher. Jacob Hudson will be taking his 92 mph fastball to TCU with him where his loose arm and heavy fastball will play well in the Big-12. Dillon Despain and Cole Stokes remain uncommitted with the right-handers showing weekend rotation projection at the college level. Kyle Connelly has a chance to be the most successful right-hander at the collegiate level from the group thanks to mature feel and aptitude on the mound.
