Power 25: Week 2

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Baseball fans were treated to a heck of an Opening Weekend in SoCal that saw many of the Power 25 teams not only play, but square off against each other. And while it’s still very, very early in the season, some teams made statements as to what we might be able to expect from them moving forward. 

There’s a new No. 1 team in the state as Ayala ascends to the top spot after a resounding win over a very good Foothill (Santa Ana) team. Orange Lutheran jumps up a spot to No. 2 after a resounding win over former No. 4 King (Riverside) and a win over a scrappy Chaminade team. Rounding out the Top 5 are Jserra, Eastlake, and Valley Christian. 

There are three new entrants into the Power 25. At No. 20 is Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) fresh off their come-from-behind upset win over JSerra. At No. 22 is Mission Viejo who rolled to a 2-0 start behind 24 runs scored by the offense. Heritage (Brentwood) moves in at No. 23 after an early season sprint out to a 3-0 record. Pt. Loma, Servite, Thousand Oaks, Santa Margarita, St. Augustine and many more moved up after big wins this past weekend. 

With another full schedule this week that includes all the SoCal teams, it’s hard to not look ahead to next week when CIF Central Section gets its season underway before the northern part of the state gets going shortly thereafter. In the end, the entire State of California will be playing high school baseball in a matter of weeks.
