What We Saw: Week 12

Power 25

No. 1 Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) vs. No. 8 Corona

This highly anticipated game featured two UCLA commits on the mound for each team. The game ended up going 10 innings with dominant pitching on both sides. Corona pulled off the win to advance with a walk-off in the 10th.

On the hill for Corona, ‘24 LHP Ethan Schiefelbein (UCLA) worked with a 3-pitch mix, topping at 92.

‘23 RHP Justin Lee (UCLA) started for Notre Dame and was throwing gas from the beginning while mixing it up with his splitter and slider that were both in the 80s.

‘23 C Collin Brown (Uncommitted) executed when it was necessary and got the RBI to give Notre Dame the lead in the third inning.

‘24 C Josh Springer (Oregon) came in clutch to level the score in the sixth inning with a sac fly. The score would stay that way until the 10th inning.

‘24 RHP/3B Levi Sterling (Texas) came in to relieve showing off a great slider and a fastball up to 91.

‘23 MIF Ethan Hill (Uncommitted) came in clutch with his second walk-off hit of the year smashing a double into left center allowing the winning run to score from first.

No. 16 Harvard Westlake vs. No. 21 Orange Lutheran

Another early playoff matchup between Power 25 teams, this game features former top 3 ranking holders. Both teams played exceptionally well with this final score being 1-0 in favor of Orange Lutheran.

‘24 RHP Duncan Marsten (Uncommitted) was on the hill for Harvard Westlake and although he gave up a run in the first he settled in.

‘24 OF Derek Curiel (LSU) came up huge for Orange Lutheran in scoring what turned out to be a game winning run. A double down the right field line followed by a steal made it easy and ‘23 INF Casey Borba (Texas) drove him in to record the only RBI and run of the game.

‘23 OF WIll Gasparino (Texas) scorched one up the middle for Harvard Westlake.

Fellow Texas commit ‘24 3B/RHP Bryce Rainer (Texas) also broke into the hit column for Harvard Westlake in their quest to get a run across the board.

Elsewhere

‘24 RHP Troy Cooper (Uncommitted) capped off a great year by holding No. 1 Notre Dame to one run in 3.2 innings.

‘25 LHP Zane Nordquist (Uncommitted) finished his stellar season with a complete game. Striking out nine and holding the opposition to one run.
