Ventura, Calif. - As the entirety of the of the California High School sections are fully underway with the Southern Section, Los Angeles City Section and San Diego Section all playing games Prep Baseball California will be highlighting a weekly game of the week.

This weeks match up features two power house programs from the Los Angeles City section with the Prep Baseball California # 20 ranked El Camino Real Royals taking on the defending CIF-City Section Open champion Birmingham Patriots. Both programs are off to strong starts in the 2024 season and figure to be prominent contenders for the Open division title in 2024.

Game Preview:  El Camino Real has started the 2024 campaign with a strong performance running out to a 4-2 record coming up just short against the Prep Baseball California #11 ranked Westlake Warriors in the championship game of the Easton SoCal Showdown tournament to open the season. But, they have collected strong wins over CIF-SS D2 champions Crespi on opening day and over CIF-SS D2 Sectional champions Calabasas and over a strong Chaminade program. The Royals are lead by a solid group of seniors and a pitching staff who has started the year very strong allowing 3 runs or less in 4 of their 6 games and have only given up more than 5 runs once so far. Birmingham also brings a veteran laden team with seniors leading the way throughout the lineup and will rely on a strong pitching staff who in 8 games so far has allowed 3 runs of in 5 of them including back to back shutout wins over Sylmar and Granada Hills Charter. The Patriots will face off in a mid-week tilt against Thousand Oaks in advance of this game while El Camino Real will be off until the match up on Friday. Needless to say the two City section powers will be primed and ready to compete on Friday afternoon.
