Los Angeles, Calif. - Each week during the high school season we will announce the SoCal Pitcher and Player of the Week covering the action from the previous week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on recommendations from high school coaches from Southern California. 

Continuing from previous seasons, we will also be highlighting others players from across the state in our Prep Baseball California Diamond Notes that will be released weekly. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches that are deserving of recognition that were not named Pitcher of Player of the Week. 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Junior pitcher Justin Peinado of Bishop Amat High School is the SoCal Pitcher of the Week. Peinado put together an outstanding start against Bishop Montgomery High School with a complete game shutout win in which he allowed just 3 hits, walked 1 batter and punched out 13. On the season Peinado has been dominant with a 1.02 ERA in 6 appearances is 2-0 having thrown 34.1 innings and allowed just 21 hits (no extra base hits) and 7 walks while striking out 33 hitters to open the spring.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Senior Zeke Smith of Marantha Christian High School is the SoCal Player of the Week after huge week which was highlighted by a 4-4 performance against a high quality arm from Calexico High School. While a 4-4 game alone would put a player in the running Smith took it to the next level agaisnt Calexico with a pair of HRs, drove in 6 runs in the game while scoring 3 runs himself. Smith is having a torrid start to his senior campaign currently hitting .520 with 2 HRs, 2 doubles, 12 RBIs and 9 runs scored.
