Prep Baseball Report Iowa's Fall Unsigned Senior event took place on Sunday, October 11, 2015. The event was held at Waukee High School in Waukee, IA. The event featured prospects from the 2016 class who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple coaches in attendance.

Waverly-Shell Rock's Dalton Graven was selected as the top player in the event. Graven showed good actions in the field with an above average arm and ran a 6.85 60. His performance at the event leaped him into the PBR Iowa rankings for 2016's to #36 on the list. Graven recently made his college decision and will be attending Indian Hills CC in Centerville, IA.

Alec Capshaw, OF, Davenport Central, 2016
5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.94 runner. Slightly closed stance. Aggressive swings. Looks to drive baseball. Stays connected in load and stride. Consistent hard contact with gap to gap approach. 87 mph exit velocity. One-piece arm action in outfield. Elevated throws to plate with average carry. Shows solid/avg. ability to defend in outfield. 79 mph arm strength.

Noah Catron, C, Martensdale St. Mary’s, 2016
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 8.2 runner. Open stance to start. Pull approach. Loose hands with solid contact. Shows avg. pop in bat. 77 mph exit velocity. 2.4 pop time to second base. Clean exchange with proper direction to target with feet. Requires improved arm strength. Solid receiver and blocker. Works hard behind the plate. 68 mph arm strength to second base.

Mason Clasen, 1B, Waterloo Columbus, 2016
6-foot-4, 230-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. Large build. 8.19 runner. Spread stance with front heel turn trigger. Slight hitch in load. Stays on top of baseball well. Mid/pull approach with flashes of power in bat. Inconsistent contact to oppo part of field. 91 mph exit velocity off tee. Heavier feet defensively. Shows ability to turn double play with fielding ability and accurate throws. Average footwork around bag. 75 mph arm strength.

Dalton Graven, SS, Waverly-Shell Rock, 2016
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting infielder. 6.85 runner. Early load and stride. Good barrel control with consistent line-drives. Uses whole field. Consistent solid contact. 2-hole type hitter. 79 mph exit velocity off tee. Fields out front and plays through ball well. Short arm action with above average carry and accuracy to bag. Shows good body control on slow-roller. 84 mph arm strength across infield. Committed to Indian Hills CC.

Jack Gray, 1B/LHP, Burlington Notre Dame, 2016
6-foot, 187-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.59 runner. Slight crouch in stance. Body load with short stride. Stays inside baseball at contact. Middle/away approach. Solid barrel control. 84 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows soft hands at first base with ability to field. Throws are accurate with avg. carry across diamond at 74 mph. Worked primarily out of stretch. Some hitch/collapse at balance point. Average life on fastball and uses multiple arm slots in delivery. Fastball had cutting action from lower slot. Threw better breaking ball than previous event. 1/7 break with solid depth and flashes of tight rotation. Avg. fade and command of changeup.

Collin Guinn, OF, Davenport North, 2016
6-foot-2, 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. 7.16 runner. Athletic frame. Longer stride with good balance. Line drive swing plane. Rotational lower half through contact. Uses whole field with ability to hit hard line-drives up the middle. Consistent solid contact. 78 mph exit velocity off tee. Unraveling arm action with short release. Light on his feet and moves well defensively. Throws show avg. carry and solid accuracy to target at 76 mph.

Derrick Johnson, SS/RHP, Hopkins, 2016
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.06 runner. Deep load with double tap trigger. Inverted swing plane. Falls over plate. Contact hitter with solid line drives to middle of field consistently. 76 mph exit velocity off tee. Shows above avg. range in field with good glove and makes consistent routine plays. Solid all-around in field. 76 mph arm strength. Short balance point on mound. Leaks early to plate. Lands across body in stride. Short arm action. Slight downhill plane on fastball with cutting action. 11/5 breaking ball showed solid rotation and shape with avg. depth. Changeup was thrown with good arm speed and had solid fade with flat action. Pounded zone with 3 pitches and showed above avg. command.

Ryan Kirschman, 2B, Ankeny, 2016
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. 7.25 runner. Solid set-up in box. Strides slightly across body. Aggressive approach. Line drive swing plane with middle/away approach. Average pop in bat. 83 mph exit velocity. Solid/avg. glove with good range in field. Fields across body occasionally. Short arm action with average carry and accuracy across diamond at 72 mph.

Parker Klimesh, SS, Winterset, 2016
5-foot-11, 165-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. 7.34 runner. Open stance to start. Flat-line drive swing plane. Rotational lower half carries bat out of zone early. Mid/pull approach with ability to use whole field. Some strength in swing. 85 mph exit velocity off tee. Heavier feet; best suited for third base. Solid glove. Shows above avg. accuracy to bag. Solid body control on slow-roller. 81 mph arm strength.

Ryan Lorber, C, Davenport Central, 2016
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.43 runner. Strides firm to contact. Aggressive swings. Short to contact. Stays connected well with short load. Middle/away approach with ability to drive baseball to opposite field. 82 mph exit velocity off tee. 2.12 pop time with 76 mph arm strength. Above avg. carry to bag with solid accuracy. Receives fastball well with soft hands. Jabs occasionally on off-speed. Some length to exchange but makes up for it with short consistent release and above avg. arm.

Tyler Maddison, LHP, Albia, 2016
5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed pitcher. Has made improvement in overall pitching mechanics since August. Showed quicker arm with better direction to plate. Downhill plane on fastball with cutting action in bottom of zone. Curveball had 1/7 shape with flashes of sweeping break. Stiff arm action on changeup with avg./ok fade. Overall showed solid feel for zone with 2 pitches.

Elijah Neubauer, OF/LHP, Millard North (NE), 2016
6-foot, 170-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.13 runner. Athletic set-up in box. Inconsistent load effects timing and contact. Uses whole field with above avg. pop in bat. Stiff lower half in swing. 80 mph exit velocity off tee. Quick twitch actions in outfield. Aggressive routes to baseball and fields with confidence. ¾ ½ pie arm action. Solid accuracy to target with sinking action on baseball. 75 mph arm strength. Worked primarily out of stretch. Solid direction to plate. Picks up target late. Fastball had varying cut and sink. 1/7 breaking ball had gradual break with loose spin. Slider had sideways spin with flashes of depth. Changeup had wobbly cut action in bottom of zone.

Jordan Pierce, 3B, Carlisle, 2016
5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 7.41 runner. Athletic set-up in box. Aggressive swing. Creates bat speed. Some length to contact. Clean path to baseball. Gap to gap approach with consistent hard contact. Shows above average pop in bat. 83 mph exit velocity off tee. Avg./ok glove with avg. feet in field. Above avg. arm with carry and accuracy. Clean arm action with online throws to bag. 79 mph arm strength across infield.

Mark Primrose, SS, Waukee, 2016
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.1 runner. Athletic build. Tall stance with front heel turn trigger. Low hand slot. Underneath at contact occasionally. Cuts off swing with limited extension through contact. Gap to gap approach with consistent solid contact. 81 mph exit velocity. Flashes athletic actions in field. Late glove position occasionally. Above avg. hands with avg. feet. Throws show good carry and accuracy to bag at 77 mph.

Kyle Schmitt, RHP, Van Meter, 2016
6-foot-3, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Lean projectable frame. Slight tuck and turn in delivery. Strides across body in delivery. Clean arm action from ¾ slot. Fastball had cutting action in bottom of zone; good 2-seam run in on RHH’s. Feel for zone with fastball. 11/5 breaking ball had average shape and gradual break to plate. Cutter flashed above average with small sharp break and depth. Wobbly cut action on changeup and was firm. Overall showed feel for zone with all pitches. Good project arm with solid ceiling for many college’s.
