Fall Unsigned Senior Showcase: Infield Evaluations

Prep Baseball Report Iowa held the Fall Unsigned Senior Showcase in W. Des Moines, IA  at WDM Valley High School on October 11th, 2014.  The event was for 2015 graduates with Iowa and Nebraska players represented. In our coverage we have broken down the prospects by their respective position.

Nick McMurray, SS, Dowling Catholic, 2015
6-foot, 175-pound shortstop. 7.05 60 time. Left-handed hitter with above average hitting ability. Simply seems to find holes and get on base. Weight transfers through swing with gap to gap approach. 81 mph exit velocity. Makes routine plays and is solid at shortstop. Throws are accurate from high slot with short arm action. 80 mph velocity across infield. Overall with physical development has chance to be major contributor in college program.

Christopher Riddle, SS, Elkhorn Mt. Michael(NE), 2015
5-foot-10, 170-pound shortstop. 7.31 60 time. Slight inverted C load with hitchy rhythm. Shows good hands at the plate with line drive swing plane. Ball jumps at contact. Ok bat speed. Minimal use of lower half in swing. 88 mph exit velocity. Plays with energy in the middle infield. Sure hands and plays through the ball well. Has body control and arm works from high ¾ slot with arm speed. 81 mph across infield. Also showed ability to turn double play from both sides of the bag. Interesting prospect with additional maturity and physical development.

Tyler Huisman, 2B, Ankeny Centennial, 2015
5-foot-8, 170-pound second baseman. 7.78 60 time. Right-handed hitter with low cocked position of hands after load, slight arm bar, and knee to knee stride and trigger into swing. Pushes bat through zone. 70 mph exit velocity. Moves well in infield. Plays down to up with energy. Shows range to left and right. Glove works well. Has body control. Arm is clean and accurate. Has hand speed. 73 mph across infield.

Chris Hazelbaker, SS, Des Moines Roosevelt, 2015
5-foot-8, 155-pound shortstop. 7.61 60 time. Square stance with easy stride into contact. Slight uphill swing plane. At times over rotates on backside. Showed good gap to gap approach. 79 mph exit velocity. Defensively puts feet and body in good position to field. Shows usable hands. Average arm strength with accuracy to first. 75 mph across infield.

Trey Lindsay, SS, PCM, 2015
5-foot-10, 150-pound shortstop. 7.74 60 time. Medium to low hand set with minimal rhythm. Flat bat to start. Level flat swing plane through contact. 70 mph exit velocity. Mechanical actions while fielding. Shows flashes of fluidity and athleticism when having to cover ground. Glove is usable and makes routine plays. Short arm action with 72 mph velocity across infield.

Isaiah Thomas, SS, Waukee, 2015
5-foot-10, 170-pound shortstop. 7.21 60 time. Right-handed hitter with simple swing mechanics. Slight shoulder load and balanced stride. Rotational swing with occasional power to pull side of field. 82 mph exit velocity. Average actions and athleticism fielding. Glove is ok. Throws from ¾ slot occasionally missing arm side. 73 mph velocity across infield. Bat has some projection.

Jesse Nichols, 2B, Pleasantville, 2015
5-foot-11, 185-pound second baseman. 7.68 60 time. Right-handed hitter with minimal weight shift through swing and use of lower half. Short through zone with cut-off finish. 70 mph exit velocity. Plays infield with minimal body control. Choppy steps to baseball- flat footed. Glove is ok. Minimal use of front side. Mid ¾ arm angle. 75 mph across infield.

Colton Patterson, RHP/1B, Winterset, 2015
6-foot-3, 210-pound 2-way player.  Left-handed that loads with body. Minimal weight shift through zone. Shows ability to barrel up baseball with uphill swing and pull approach. 82 mph exit velocity. Aggressive fielder with usable hands and feet. Goes after baseball. Quality footwork around bag receiving throws. Balanced delivery with inline stride. Over-the-top slot with slight head jerk and effort. Fastball had late cutting action at 80-82 mph. Curveball showed 12/6 shape with late sharp break at 71-72. Changeup had slight ASR at 75-76 for strikes. Lowered arm slot causing slider to be flat and up in zone. Slider 67-70 mph.

Jarod Cadena, 1B, Cedar Rapids Prairie, 2015
5-foot-11, 195-pound first baseman. Right-handed hitter with 87 mph exit velocity. Ran 7.87 60. Used aggressive body load to swing. Slight uphill bat path with pop to pull side. Good extension and long finish through contact. Has made improvements since Prospect Games in August. Shows an adequate glove at first base with ability to make routine plays. Moves with confidence and attacks baseball. 77 mph across infield.

Blake Anderson, 3B, Burlington, 2015
6-foot, 225-pound third baseman. 7.7 60 time. Left-handed hitter. Slightly crouched stance with minimal movement and load. Balanced stride and short to contact. 73 mph exit velocity. Average actions and rhythm in infield. 65 mph across from low ¾ slot.

Logan Hamann, 2B, North Scott, 2015
5-foot-10, 165-pound second baseman. Right-handed hitter with simple swing mechanics. Average to deep load with line drive swing plane registering 76 mph exit velocity.  Good first step quickness fielding. Sure handed with ability to cover ground laterally. Short arm action with accuracy. 68 mph across infield.

Bryce Hingst, C/1B, Waukee, 2015
5-foot-9, 200-pound catcher/first baseman. 8.1 60 time. Left-handed hitter with strong uphill swing. Keeps barrel in zone and ball jumps off bat with pull approach. 92 mph exit velocity. At first base shows soft hands and good feet. Undersized for receiving throws across. More than adequate at position. Behind the plate shows average hands receiving. Strong hands; needs to clean up receiving mechanics. Ok feet blocking. Head leaks out in front losing body control and holding block. Relatively clean- simple and repeatable catch and throw mechanics. Very consistent throws to second. 71 mph arm strength with 2.00-2.05 pop times and accuracy on bag.
