Prep Baseball Report Iowa

On Sunday, March 7th, Prep Baseball Report will return to SportsPlex West in Waukee, IA and hold its 7th annual PBR IA Preseason All-State event. Perennially, this event gives us an additional opportunity to take a closer view at a number of Iowa's top talents we have seen prior; along with introducing us to some under-the-radar and underclass prospects that have made considerable strides recently.

Over the last five years; over 400 prospects who attended the PBR IA Preseason All-State event have committed to colleges to continue their baseball career. This is year should be no different. The PBR IA Preseason All-State historically brings out the most talented prospects in the state.

8 players in the 2022 class who are currently ranked in the PBR Top 10 for the state will be performing Sunday, 22 from the Top 25, and 55 from the Top 75; including numerous prospects who will ranked near future attending as well. The Iowa 2023 and 2024 classes are represented equally as well; with many of the state’s top prospects slated to attend.

Our staff is eagerly anticipating seeing a strong 2022 group highlighted by 6 players in the class who have already made their college commitments. Future Games participant and #1 ranked Tommy Specht (Dubuque Wahlert) who has committed to Kentucky and Future Games participant Reese Moore (Forest City) to Iowa, Justin Hackett (Winterset) who has pledged a commitment to TCU, RHP Jaqson Tejada (Marion) to Florida International and RHP/3B Alex Neal (Cedar Rapids Xavier) who has committed to Oakland U., and Kooper Schulte, SS, (New London) who is set to attend Iowa Western CC. There will be host of the top uncommitted 2022 players in attendance as well looking to solidify their decisions in the coming weeks and months.

One of the only three 2023 grads in the state to have made a college commitment, Doug Taylor (Mason City Newman) who has committed to Iowa, will be in the event. Other top 2023’s to keep an eye on include: Maddux Frese (Cedar Rapids Prairie), Cal Sullivan (Cedar Rapids Prairie), Colin Driscoll (Waukee), Alex Knudtson (Iowa City High), Brady Blake (Indianola), Ethan Patterson (Washington), and Rowan Donels (Cedar Rapids Kennedy). Along with a host of other prospects as well.

Not to be left off; there will be a substantial amount of 2024 grads in attendance looking to show their development and increase their visibility to college baseball programs. Look for good performances from Klayton Bolkema (Bettendorf), Brett White (Solon), Adam Kayko (Waukee), Drew Beatty (Independence), Karson Grout (Mid Prairie) and Jake Goodman (Western Dubuque).

Look for many of these prospects to continue to cement their prospect status at the event; along with numerous other uncommitted players who are ready to leap to the fore-front in their respective classes. The event has continued to grow over the last six years in attendance and talent. The 2021 PBR IA Preseason All-State event looks to be the deepest and most talent laden event yet.

Excited to see everyone in Waukee on Sunday!
