Q&A with Xavier Commit Trent Astle, Jeffersonville HS

Trent Astle, LHP, Jeffersonville HS, Class of 2013

PBR: What were your final stats for Jeffersonville?
Astle: Final pitching stats were 9 CG, 66 IP, 7-3, 45 H, 12 ER, 1.27 ERA, 16BB, 86K's, 4 SO.

PBR: Why did you choose Xavier?
Astle: I chose Xavier because I was impressed with everything they had to offer. Their campus is great, along with their facilities and coaches. I think Coach Otte's pitching philosophy is spot on for me and I'm in the best possible situation to develop and succeed.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Astle: I was also considering Butler, Evansville and Lipscomb.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?
Astle: They expect me to come right in the fall competing for a spot to gobble up some innings that following spring. Whether that's as a mid-week starter or coming in for an inning or two at any time to keep hitters off balance, whatever helps the team the most.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Xavier?
Astle: My biggest strength as a player is my mental ability to focus and compete. I've pitched in countless big moments through my career and all of them will prepare me for pitching and helping the Musketeers.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Astle: I would have to say my mom and dad. They have supported me the whole way and they knew what was best for me to make it where I am today. I love playing in front of them and the rest of my family.

PBR: You played for team Indiana last summer in the Under Armour Midwest Futures Games, talk about that experience
Astle: Playing in the Future Games last summer was probably the coolest tournament/showcase I've ever been part of. There was so much talent and so many college coaches and scouts in the stands. It was a great atmosphere and it's cool now to see where all of my teammates from that weekend are going to college.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter you have faced in Indiana?
Astle: Without a doubt the toughest hitter I have ever faced is my teammate Isaac Crafton.
