Stephenson Continues to be Dominant on Mound and at Plate

Fairland, IN - When Triton Central Senior and Vanderbilt commit Luke Stephenson takes the mound fans and scouts alike fill up bleachers and backstops. Tuesday's ballgame against visiting Edinburgh was no different, and the hurler did not disappoint.

Stephenson worked six innings striking out 14 Lancers with a fastball that set 88-91 on the afternoon. The tall righty also featured a late-life breaking ball that dove away from hitters. Control was an issue in the early innings, but he was able to settle down and find the zone with more consistency by the third.

At the plate, Stephenson and battery mate Austin Pittman (2012) also controlled the game. The pitcher went 4-4 on the day with two triples and driving home two. Pittman came to the plate in the bottom of the third and sent a 78 mph fastball over the right field fence to give the Tigers a 6-4 lead. The lineup wrapped around again in the fourth and Pittman sent another blast over the right fielders head for another two-run shot and a lead of 9-4.

Pittman and Stephenson were the games top performers driving in seven of the team’s ten runs.
