Triton Central 6 Hauser 5

Fairland, IN ? Mid-Hoosier Conference rivals faced off Thursday as Hauser traveled to take on Triton Central. The game featured two dominant pitching performances from Joe Lange for Hauser and Luke Stephenson for Triton Central. They two starters combined to give up nine runs, but only one of the runs was earned.

In the second inning Hauser was able to break through. Derek Cooper reached base on a one out single and was able to move up one out later after an error by Triton Central. With two out cleanup hitter Adam Miller was able to come through with a big RBI single to break the 0-0 tie.

The pitchers continued to set batters down until the bottom of the fifth when Triton Central was able to break through. After getting the first batter out Lange gave up a single to Evan Leggins to start TC?s rally. A controversial call at first gave TC runners on first and second with one out, Lange was able to retire the next batter an looked as if he was about to get out of the inning without surrendering any runs. Quinn Schneider had other plans and came through with a big two out, two run double to give TC its first lead of the day. Austen Pitman would follow that up with a single to drive in Schneider, giving TC a 3-1 lead.

Triton Central was able to tack on another run and looked to be sailing for the victory going into the top of the 7th. Kyle Sims and Brent LaRue both reached to lead off the top of the 7th, but Stephenson was able to strike out the next two batters. With two outs the game looked to be about over, but Derek Cooper came up with a two run single to cut the deficit to one. Stephenson struck out the next batter however the ball went passed the catcher and the runner reached. Lange came up and hit a single to right to tie the game at four. Hauser would take the lead when TC?s catcher would try to pick the runner off of first and the ball got away from the first baseman, giving Hauser a 5-4 lead.

Reid Thayer came in the bottom of the 7th for Hauser and would walk the bases loaded. Pitman came through with a dying line drive, that the shortstop was unable to handle, allowing a run to score to tie the game. With two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd TJ Titus hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop, but he was unable to field it cleanly and Titus beat the throw to first, allowing the runner to score and giving Triton Central the Victory.
