Week of July 27th

Big Fred’s vs. Papillion South

  • Uncommitted ‘21 Brayden Curtis (RHP) got the start for Papio South going 4 ⅓ allowing 4 ER. Curtis was 80-83 from his high ¾ arm slot with some occasional run. He also mixed in a 71-72 mph slider with gradual break. We also were able to see Nebraska-Omaha commit Ryan Mendez. Mendez struggled to find the zone in his 1+ inning of work, allowing 4 walks. When Mendez was in the zone his tight breaking 69-72 mph curveball worked well off his 84-86 mph fastball with running action.

  • Solid day at the plate for Hutchinson CC commit Bodi Wallar (3B, Papio South) and uncommitted ‘21 Trenton Brehm. Both Wallar and Brehm had 2 hits and 2 RBI, while Brehm also scored 3 runs. Big Fred’s was led by Jaxson Grass (2B) who had 3 hits including a 5th inning home run and also scored 3 of Big Fred’s 6 runs.

OrthoNebraska Antlers vs. P52s

  • Jarrett Novak is a stud.

  • First time we have gotten to see Trey Frahm (RHP, Southern Nevada) in a start on the mound in 2020. Frahm ended up going 5 innings with 8 Ks, 1ER and 5 walks. Fastball was up to 92 mph multiple times in the first with sporadic feel for the zone. Once Frahm settled in the 86-90 mph range and started landing his 74-76 mph breaking ball for strikes, he competed well in the strike zone. Overall pitch-ability has improved and it should be fun to see how he transitions at the next level.

  • Wichita State commit Matt Guthmiller had a double in the fifth and scored on a RBI single from Tyson Gerdes.
