By TJ Hunt

Director of Scouting, New Jersey

As we continue to shape-the-state here in New Jersey, several different unique features will be available on our website. Player Spotlights, Progress Reports, Scouting Blogs, Rankings and Top-Performer Lists, and so much more. Without the players we have nothing, so let’s take this a bit more personal - Get To Know: Our new article feature that hones in on what our Garden State players are up to, what makes them tick, and some real-candid inside access...

Name: Andrew Eng
High School: Ridgewood
Grad Year: 2017
Position: OF
State Rank: 44
Commitment: Binghamton University

PBR: Let's start with your baseball commitment to Binghamton. Tell us about the process and how you decided on the Bearcats? Are you excited to play in the America East Conference?

Eng: Going into summer baseball I got a call from Coach Hurba. To be completely honest, I had hadn't ever heard of Binghamton before that call. But as the summer went on, Coach Hurba and Coach Sinclair kept in contact with me and made both me and my mom very comfortable and confident in choosing Binghamton.

PBR: Baseball has an unbelievable way of positively shaping young man on and off the field. Tell us one life-lesson you have picked up over the years playing the game, and how that life-lesson may impact you later in life?

Eng: Baseball has taught me that you can always outwork your competition.

PBR: If you were a baseball scout and just watched yourself play, what would that scouting report look like?

Eng: My scouting report would read that I swing hard.

PBR: We are knee-deep into the off-season schedule. Tell us about your training, and spring preparation.

Eng: My offseason training includes working out at Rockland Peak Performance with Nunzio Signore and the rest of the trainers and hitting with Coach Mike Rozema at RPP, too.

PBR: If you could only pick one, who would be your biggest baseball influence and why?

Eng: My older brother and his friends are probably the biggest baseball influences in my life. They would always be playing wiffleball whenever I got home from elementary school  and they would always let me join in. I got to see how the older kids played baseball which made  me want to get better to able able to hold my own with them.

PBR: Name three goals for the upcoming 2017 season.

Eng:
1. Win a League Championship
2. Win a County Championship
3. Win a State Championship (Runner-Up in North I Group IV in 2016)

PBR: Who is the best player you have played against in your high school career?

Eng: The best player that I have played against in my career would definitely have to be (2017 RHP) Zack Dreznin (Northern Highlands HS, NJ - Notre Dame recruit). 3-1 curveballs are why I have trust issues.

PBR: Do you have any pregame superstitions?

Eng: I always have to have a peanut butter & jelly sandwich before each game, and I am always dancing and having fun.

PBR: What would be your best walkout song? (Clean songs only, of course)

Eng: My favorite walkout song is "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani.
