Bishop Manogue: Program Spotlight

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

This year, in addition to the Scout Day Showcases, we are also going to spotlighting programs as a whole with an interview with each participating teams head coach providing insight into their expectations for Spring 2021, key players, incoming players, players expected to have breakout seasons, how they have navigated the past year and much more. Bishop Manogue is expected to be a serious contender late in this abbreviated season with a gritty 1-9 on the offensive side and a deep rotation on the bump.

Bishop Manogue SPOTLIGHT
Head Coach, Charles Oppio

What are your expectations for your program for the 2021 Spring Season?

Very young team. Many spots open. Expecting young guys to step up and take positions.

Who are the top returning players you have coming back this Spring? Expectations of those players?

Seth McGrath and Drew Scolari. Both all-league returners. Need Seth to become true top of rotation guy. Drew continue to be great leader.

Who on your roster do you expect to have a breakout season in 2021?

2021 - Cody Glenn - need him to step up at 1st and help out catching.
2021 - Riley Navarro- need him to solidify 2nd base position
2022 - Christo Viloria to have big year in the outfield
2023 - Aidan Long- OF/2B/P. Aidan doing great things in lead off spot. Competitor.
2023 - Will be the guy behind the dish. key to season

How are you preparing for the Spring?

We are lucky enough to have great indoor facility. Getting lots of practice in while playing 1 or 2 games a day.

What has your program done to combat the restricted ability to play baseball over the past year?

We have great administration. We were allowed to practice and play most of the summer and fall. Proud to report we had no issues with players or coaches.

Do you have any college commits within the program?

2021 - Seth McGrath - College of San Mateo

Besides a State Championship, what do you try to accomplish within your program every year?

We want to produce excellent student-athletes that will represent the school and the program well when they go out into the world.

DIRECTOR NOTES
PBR Nevada Director of Scouting, Brett Harrison

Bishop Manogue is not only one of the most respected programs in Northern Nevada, but throughout the entire state. Their gritty approaches at the plate and depth on the mound with 85+ mph arms is a huge separator for them, especially with the abbreviate season, the minimal miles put on the arms throughout the regular season should have them catching their stride heading into playoffs. The group will be lead by 2021 two-way / San Mateo commit, Seth McGrath, who should be a big bat in the heart of the order for the Miners with a pair of 2022 prospects, Luke Metzker and Logan Pruski, also expected to make a significant impact on both sides of the ball. The 2023 Class for Bishop Manogue is projected to be their next "big" class with athletic utility player, Sam Kane, and projectable right hander, Callan Scolari, expected to be names you will want to follow over the coming years. This squad has talent spread through each of its class with even more in the prep pipeline and we expect them to be a serious contender not only this year, but for many years to come.
