Beyond the Numbers: Top Barrel Masters of the Summer

Jared Carrier
Scouting Director

Beyond the numbers takes a look at some catergories that don't show up in the statistical reports from our events or scouted Champions Events tournaments this past summer. Today we take a look at the players who seemed to consistently find the barrel when at the plate.

Barrel Masters - Summer 2018

Isaiah Logan OF / 1B / Canajoharie, NY / 2019

Logan has attended several events but really stood out over a 3-day span at the Northeast Pride Scout Weekend with multiple extrabase hits including a bullet of a HR to LF at Bard College. Bat seems to stay in the zone a long time. The corner OF/1B is uncommitted.

Brenden Harris OF / SS / Guilderland , NY / 2020

One thing we all know about Harris is whether there is contact or not, the effort will be explosive. Despite a max effort approach he's displayed the ability to work counts and battle off-speed. Swung it very well at the Future Games in Indiana.

Robert Beyer 1B / LHP / Fordham Prep, NY / 2019

The RHH/LHP plays 1B and much like Isaiah Logan he did nothing but hit the ball hard during the Northeast Pride Scout Weekend. Even his outs were "loud" with several well struck balls that were knocked down by a cross-wind.

Danny Rogers 2B / SS / Troy , NY / 2021

Comfortable as can be in the batter's box with an easy going stroke from the left side. Can flash some juice to his pull side. Swung it well at Future Games and the Campus Series Event at St. Rose.

Amaury Samalot Jr. C / Churchville Chili, NY / 2019

We've seen Samalot many times over the years including 3 separate times in a 2 week span with the NYS Games, Campus-Series Niagara and the East-West Battle during late June/early July. The results were the same, solid contact with some juice behind it. Loves the left center gap.

Matthew Stam OF / LHP / S.S. Seward, NY / 2019

A newcomer this summer, his lefty stroke is as pure as it comes and he'll will be a gap to gap specialist as he matures. Keep and eye on this 2019 as a late steal for a strong collegiate program.

Dillon Lobdell 2B / SS / Williamsville East , NY / 2019

Physically stronger with some fast twitch both in the infield and at the plate. Showed some of the best bat speed we scouted over the three days at the Northeast Pride Scout Weekend at Bard College.

Brian Fry SS / Medina, NY / 2021

One of the most impressive all around performers at the East-West Battle this summer and made a few more appearances in our scout blogs during July. Line drive approach and can use the whole field. High ceiling for the 2021 grad.

Erik Charnetski OF / C / Elmira-Notre Dame , NY / 2020

Flashed some present power with some consistent future pop on the way. Natural lift and backspin; minimal effort. Will be exciting to follow in the spring of 2019.
