Prep Baseball Report

On Deck Preview: Super 60

Jared Carrier
Scouting Director

This prestigious, invitation-only event features only the top draft prospects in the Prep Baseball Report’s 35+ state coverage area. Over the last 15 years, the Super 60 has become the most heavily scouted preseason event for potential draft picks. The primary purpose of the Super 60 is to give professional area scouts, cross-checkers and scouting directors a head start to the high school season. The event is for draft-eligible Class of 2018 prospects.

Last year, an astounding 120 professional scouts of all levels were in attendance. Most Major League teams had 3-5 scouts of all levels in attendance. Since the event’s inception in 2003, more than 280 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, including 17 first-round picks and 15 second-rounders. Last year alone, four Super 60 participants were drafted in the first round.

The Super 60 will be held on Sunday, February 4 at the Max-McCook Athletic & Exposition Center’s state-of-the-art 125,000 square-foot open turf facility. New York's attendees are SS Charles Mack (Williamsville East / Clemson commit), C Henry Davis (Fox Lane / Louisville commit) and OF Matthew Hogan (Half Hollows Hills East / Vanderbilt commit). This is the 3rd year New York has participated and the first time that more then one player has represented the Empire State.

2018 Participants

Charles Mack SS / Williamsville East, NY / 2018

Physical 5-foot-11 200 pounder with squared off shoulders. The left-handed hitter sets up even with a controlled take back of the hands slightly below the shoulder. No excessive actions with his pre-pitch setup through his timing phase. May open some eyes if he’s driving the ball from the left-center gap to center field as the pull side power is already present. Will put up one of the top exit velocities at the event. Defensively he listed as a shortstop but long term may see him slide over to 3B. His strong suit will be his athleticism (runs a 6.86 60) which would allow him to flex to a corner outfield spot, second base or quite possibly behind the plate which he has experimented with. The Western NY native brings a blue collar attitude to the diamond and we are excited to see him on the national scene.

Henry Davis C / Fox Lane , NY / 2018

Davis, a 6-foot-1 200 pound Westchester County product, is going to impress with potentially the strongest arm behind the plate at the event. If his exchange and footwork are clean, be prepared for some eye opening pop-to-pop times.  The telling factor, ultimately for Davis, is how will his offensive game present itself during his batting practice rounds. On a professional level, the arm is draftable and that will be atop the scouts clipboards that are in attendance. How the bat plays may dictate whether or not he ends up at Louisville this fall.

Matthew Hogan OF / RHP / Half Hollow Hills East, NY / 2018

Hogan, a Vanderbilt commit, will be working out as an outfielder this Sunday. Physical presence at 6-foot-0 190 pounds for the left-handed hitter who attacks the ball with a balanced approach at the plate. Will be a legit 2-way threat this spring as the RHP can also work in the upper 80’s on the bump. The Long Island resident comes from a part of the state that continues to pump out high end players with sound, fundamental skill sets. We are excited to have Hogan make his PBR debut under on the big stage that is the Super 60.

Past Attendees

2017

Parker Hendershot 3B / Tioga Central, NY / 2017

Hendershot, a freshman at Penn St., had solid rounds of BP last year along with posting one of the higher exit velocities on the day. The Southern Tier native from a small Class C program had no problems adjusting to the big stage.

2016

Dan Dallas LHP / Canisius, NY / 2016

Dallas, perhaps one of PBR-NY's greatest success stories, springboarded himself onto the national scene in 2016 sitting at 89-91 MPH during his bullpen at the 2016 Super 60. The southpaw with a sharp breaking ball would later be selected by the San Diego Padres in the 7th round that June.
