PBR Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week: RHP Luke Agnew

Dylan Hefflinger
PBR Ohio Editor in Chief/NW Scout

For a handful of years now, RHP Luke Agnew (2023; Wichita State commit) has been a staple of Marquette’s pitching rotation, and this year is no different. No as a senior, Agnew is being relied on even more as this team's ace and he has led them to a 7-2 record as well as a No. 3 spot inside our Power 25 rankings.

Agnew’s first appearance of the week came in Marquette’s matchup with then newly ranked Wisconsin Lutheran. In this close game, Agnew came in for the final two-innings of the game and he held onto the 5-3 win as he struck out three and did not allow a baserunner. While this was impressive, Agnew’s most dominant outing came in the ‘Toppers matchup with conference foe, Wauwatosa West.

On Friday, the righty got the start and twirled an absolute gem. Across his seven innings of work, Agnew allowed just three hits, which were the only baserunners for Wauwatosa West and struck out 12 batters to earn the conference win for Marquette.

Currently ranked No. 18 in Wisconsin’s senior class, Agnew has seemed to make gains to his game each and every time we have seen him since his PBR Future Games Performance in 2021. It is not surprising to see Agnew dominant like he did last week as he features a lively fastball that we have seen up to 91 mph and mixes in a 11/5 breaking ball that has earned multiple swings-and-misses, too.

For his efforts, Agnew has been named the PBR Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week, for the fourth week of WIAA action, ranging from Monday, April 17th to Sunday, April 23rd. We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
