Future Games - Team Canada Quick Hits I

As the calendar prepares to flip to August, another PBR Future Games at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, Georgia is now behind us. Canada headed down with a 22-man roster with 12 from Ontario, five from BC, four from Alberta and one from Quebec.
The team took the field for a trio of games, along with a showcase, with all of them being in front of a plethora of college coaches with 375 of them at the complex throughout the week.
With just three Future Games eligible players across the country already committed, it was a strong team at all positions and we begin to break it all down below with our first set of Quick Hits, providing scouting notes and video on standouts from the event.

Jordan Jacob 3B / SS / Bill Crothers, ON / 2025

Jacob has been one of the main attractions at the plate here at LakePoint showing off easy pop and big power potential. A physical 6-foot-1, 198-pounds, Jacob put on a show in both rounds of BP he took over the past two days, spraying the ball foul line to foul line with a heavy barrel showing raw power. In gameplay, Jacob crushed a ball on the outer half 95 mph off the bat, unfortunately right at the right fielder. He’s looked comfortable at 3B as well with soft hands and carry on his throws across the diamond. Look for Jacob to continue his big start to the week of the next couple of days.

Shane Brinham LHP / OF / Handsworth, BC / 2025

Brinham was the third arm out of the pen today for Canada and he did not disappoint. Wiry and athletic build, Brinham showed feel for all 3 pitches today that got in-zone swing and misses. The FB sat 85-87 with life out of the hand and a CB that made hitters uncomfortable and got weak contact while also mixing in a CH. There’s no doubt Brinham attracted attention from college coaches throughout his outing today.

Robert Omidi SS / 3B / St. Martin Secondary , ON / 2027Omidi is the youngest Future Gamer we have here at LakePoint and he has looked the part in all facets of his game. In the box, Omidi had one of the best rounds of BP, elevating with strength and bat speed to the big part of the field. He jumped on the first pitch he saw in his 2nd AB vs. Connecticut today and drove it 97 mph off the bat into LCF for a 2 run single, showing now problems handling velo. In the field he made a nice play on a short hop moving to his right with the right actions at second base. Omidi is the lone 2027 on Canada’s roster and he’s looking the part against the older players.

Philip Cheong SS / 2B / Bill Crothers , ON / 2026

After having one of the better overall days during the workout, Cheong showed very well during game 1 of the Future Games, taking home the Player of the Game honors. He led off the game with a hard hit ball back up the middle, and immediately stole 2nd base showing off his 6.64 60-yard speed. Cheong has twitch all over the field, displaying it in the box with impressive bat speed, and in centrefield with a quick first step and the ability to track down balls all around him. Has an aggressive approach at the plate jumping on fastballs early in the count and drives the ball with authority all over the field. Had a max EV of 93 mph during the workout. With the tools Cheong possesses, he’ll be a must follow as the week continues.

Austin Collins RHP / RHP / Foothills Composite, AB / 2025Collins put together an impressive 3 innings during game 1 of the Future Games. It starts with a clean, loose arm out of a low ¾ slot and athleticism to go with it. The fastball sat 86-88 mph with some serious arm side run and spun off some tight curveballs at 71-74 mph that have a 1/7 shape to them. However, his most effective offering was his changeup. At 78-79 mph, the velocity difference creates timing issues for hitters as it's thrown with the same intensity as his fastball. It too has arm side run and dies at the plate creating lots of swing & miss when down in the zone. Was able to locate all 3 offerings for strikes and nothing is straight making it difficult on hitters to barrel him up.

Quinn Carson OF / St. Ignatius of Loyola CSS, ON / 2025

2025 OF Quinn Carson possesses some of the loudest tools on the Canadian squad and there’s lots to like in the frame 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. The Fieldhouse Pirates product impressed on Showcase Day with a 6.83 60-yard and was up to 88mph from the outfield. Right-handed hitter who’s rhythmic in his setup and works to the pullside, generating a peak exit velocity of 96mph with a Hard Hit % of 58 (batted balls above 90mph). Carson came through with the biggest hit of the week for the Canadian team with a no-doubt two-run blast off the scoreboard in LCF. His ability to defend in the outfield at a high-level and his offensive impact/potential make him one of the more intriguing 2025 players across the country at his position.

Benjamin Kautto C / OF / Western Technical Commercial, ON / 20252025 C Benji Kautto (Ontario Blue Jays) has been on our staff's radar for quite some time now and headed to the Future Games as one of Canada’s main attractions on the positional side. Flashed equal upside throughout the week at the dish and behind it, impacting each game he played in both areas. The Ontario Blue Jays catcher moves well for the position with a 6.60 60-yard and showcased pop-times of 1.88 - 1.95 (78mph) which helped him catch several runners on the bases throughout the week. The left-handed hitter flashed bat-to-ball skills and has feel for the barrel with plenty of hard contact, picking up multiple hits to the pullside. Works with a great approach at the plate and plays to his strengths, working gap-to-gap. Kautto will be a fun watch in Ontario over the next few years and has established himself as one of the top 2025 catchers in Canada.

Lukas Le Gras C / 3B / Lambrick Park, BC / 2025

Le Gras is one of the most exciting up-and-coming catchers in Canada. The uncommitted catchers caught four runners in his 10 innings behind the dish at the Future Games. He showcased quantitative values defensively with his quick-release, showcasing a 1.88 in-game pop-time. Projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds and has a quick-twitch barrel that led to some hard hits and hard outs against high-level arms. Le Gras’ bat accelerates through the zone and allows him to work gap-to-gap with ease. Beyond his physical traits, the Victoria Eagles product manages his pitchers well and it was evident that he’s able to slow the game down back there. Quality showing on the big stage from the BC native.
