Calvin Ziegler RHP / OF / St. Marys, ON / 2021

Report: Last week Ziegler was the best we've ever seen him up to that point, and after Saturday's outing, that's the case once again. He was 93-96, T97 early. There was control, and he threw quality strikes. The best he's been from a control/command standpoint. He threw a handful of curveballs, a couple with late bite and the makings of being a swing & miss pitch. Mixed in a changeup, maintained arm-speed, located low in the zone w/ fading action. It was a smooth six innings of work in which he was up to 95 in the 6th. It all came together for Ziegler, and it was a special performance.

Nathaniel Ochoa SS / OF / Notre Dame Catholic, ON / 2022

Report: In his first game of the season, we got a good look at 2022 Nate Ochoa. Similar to former teammate Owen Caissie, Ochoa is eligible for the 2021 draft, but is committed to Purdue as a 2022 (a trend we’re seeing with many players). The body looks good at 6-4, 190-pounds, the swing can be long at times but he finds a way to get the barrel through. He struggled early in the day with a couple long AB’s that ended in strikeouts, but he went deep to right-centre in his last at-bat. Defensively the arm is playing, and the foot-speed is catching up, but from a projection standpoint, Ochoa is inching closer to who we think he can become.

Jake Heaton C / RHP / Georgetown, ON / 2022

Report: A stocky 2022 catcher, Heaton put on a hitting display on Friday night for the Fieldhouse Pirates. At 5-10, 190, he barreled two balls to both gaps at the warning track, and roped a single through the shift to his pull side. Heaton will leave the yard with regularity in BP, and can get caught leaning on the outer half of the plate, but he’s got a simple approach and can hurt opposing pitchers if they leave a pitch over the middle of the plate. It’s a small sample size, but if Heaton can prove he can hit for power, he’ll be an interesting left-handed bat to keep an eye on.

Tyler Hinrikus 3B / SS / Resurrection Catholic, ON / 2020

Report: Hinrikus, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound third-baseman, features an athletic build with strength throughout. There’s raw power (104 exit velocity), and when he makes contact, he has a chance to do damage, and on Saturday, that’s what he did. Hinrikus made loud, sweet spot contact, barreling up a pitch and driving it to deep right-center field. The ball took off, and his ability to drive a pitch to one of the field's deepest parts speaks to his power. Hinrikus is headed off to Ball State, and if he could minimize the swings and misses, he could provide offensive impact.

Cameron Gurney C / SS / Pauline Johnson, ON / 2022

Report: 2022 Cam Gurney has been something of a sleeper all winter, while showing flashes that he can turn some heads. A left-side infielder by trade as well as a part-time rotation arm, Gurney has transformed himself into one of the more intriguing catching prospects at Fieldhouse, as well as in the province. At a sturdy 6-0, 190-pounds, Gurney lives 1.95-2.00, and can swing it from the left side. He’s got present juice in the bat, but he lives predominantly to the back side of the field. He tends to bite on the inside pitch, and snap-hooks at times, but when he stays within himself, the bat plays.

Tanner Dawe RHP / AB Lucas, ON / 2020

Report: Uncommitted right-hander Tanner Dawe has impressed in back-to-back weekends out in Dorchester. It’s a power arm, working in the 89-91, T92 range so far this summer. He mixes in a breaking ball with tight spin that will be a swing and miss offering for him at the next level. He profiles as a back-end reliever with velo and a two-pitch offering, and he’ll be a good get for a club at the next level.

Brandon Turner 3B / 1B / Assumption, ON / 2022

Report: Another interesting left-handed bat out of the Pirates organization, 2022 Brendan Turner has the makings of an interesting hitter. At 6-1, 215-pounds, Turner’s got a smooth swing, easy power, and a strong build. A bit of a “big country” type of body, he’s also sneaky athletic as he locks down both corner infield positions.
