Game Recap: Garden Spot at Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown 4, Garden Spot 3 (10 innings)

Nick LehmanLancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 opponents Elizabethtown and Garden Spot battled for 10 innings before getting an outcome with two outs in the bottom of what was likely going to be the final inning of play. With darkness lurking Bears' senior shortstop Santino Buonamici coaxed a bases loaded walk to force home designated hitter Casey Cooper with the winning run. Cooper had reached with a single to start the frame.

Three hours earlier a pair of pitchers dominated for the first six innings with Garden Spot starter Nick Lehman (7 IP/1ER/6H) and Elizabethtown start Nick Stoner (6IP/1ERNick Stoner/11K/2H) controlling the action. Garden Spot opened the scoring with a run in the 2nd inning aided by a pair of walks. Elizabethtown answered when Buonamici's 3rd inning fielder's choice plated Brendan Young.

Following a two run rally in the top of the 7th inning Garden Spot appeared to be headed towards a win over their league rivals, but Cooper's two-out, two-strike single in the bottom of the 7th plated the tying run sending the game to extra innings.

The first six and one half innings were full of momentum swings and lead changes with the lead being exchanged three times in the first four innings. Carlisle plated two runs in the 5th inning to knot the game at five setting up a dramatic seventh inning.

Brock KauffmanCooper (2-5/RBI/R), Justin Shelly (2-4/BB/R) and Tommy Block (2-5) led the Bears' nine hit attack. Brock Kauffman (2-3/3BB/2B) was the lone Spartan with multiple hits. Sophomore Chad Caley worked the final four innings for the win, working out of a 2nd and 3rd, nobody out jam in the ninth.
