TN Scouting Director

KNOXVILLE, TN - The Knoxville Open and Knoxville Rising Stars ID was held on Tuesday, June 20th at 2023 TSSAA Division II-AA State Champion Knoxville Catholic. This event was an open event that consisted of players from the 2024-2028 classes from Volunteer state, with many making their first appearance at a showcase style setting. Players went through an extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60-yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to get numbers and metrics on TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Tuesday.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Tuesday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event along with other pieces of content.

QUICK HITS

Rylan Moses: Athletic and speedy outfielder that led the group in multiple metric categories during the Knoxville Open. Moses really stands out with a fluid running style that has quick initial acceleration that aided him in tracking the baseball from the outfield smoothly and showed his arm strength with 84 mph from the outfield. Clocked the 60 yard dash at 6.86. Also, presented the quickest bat speed at just around 69 mph. He also had a really solid round of BP, hitting a few out of the park, while maintaining a line drive approach to all fields and led the group with the highest exit velocity on Trackman at 96 mph. All in all, performed really well and should add to his game as he continues to develop, as his body presents a frame with plenty of room for added size and length.

Owen White: Doubles as a catcher and pitcher and showed off the arm during his throwdown portion of the event with a clocked velo of 77 mph to 2nd base. Stood out on the mound with clean mechanics and a lively arm that topped 85, while pacing in the 82-84 mph range. Another worthy note on White was his ability to spin the fastball with multiple low 2200 RPM’s on the heater, while averaging the highest RPM’s in the mid 2100’s.

Aiden Flag: Rising Sophomore that had a really nice showing during the outfield portion of the event, as well as on the mound. Clocked 85 mph from right field with clean, accurate throws to home that mostly 1 hopped to the catcher, with one or two online carried throws to the catcher. On the mound, was one of the best fastball spinners averaging out in the mid 2000 RPM’s, with a 19 inch  induced vertical on Trackman. Sat in the 81-83 moh range, while topping 84. Athletic player that has present size at 180 pounds and will gain additional velocity as he matures.

Bennett Gammon: Athletic player with a solid foundation to build upon. Showcased some really solid metrics during multiple portions of the event. Clocked a sub 7 60 yard dash at 6.96 with some of the highest rotational acceleration from the group during his hitting portion. Flashed smooth actions from the outfield receiving and made on target throws to home plate that clocked 80 mph. Changeup plays really well with solid horizontal movement with some sinking vertical tilt and can make that pitch more competitive as he adds velocity to his fastball. Listed at 160 pounds, he will go as he develops and has plenty of room to grow in terms of added size.
