The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Lions turned in a solid season as they were in the thick of district six, but were the odd man out in the district tourney to finish the year with a record of 17-7. This year, they’ll return a solid core of upperclassmen leaders and a good lineup. ‘24 SS/RHP AJ Armstrong returns as an impact player on both sides of the ball and will be the ace once again. He led the team in every statistical category last year and went 5-1 on the mound. ‘23 3B/RHP Gaige Turner returns for his senior campaign and will man the hot corner and serve as the no. 2 arm. ‘25 1B/RHP Ben Kauffman turned in a strong freshman campaign and will be a key bat while throwing significant innings on the mound. ‘23 OF/RHP Ethan Powell will be a veteran presence in the outfield and will be in a swingman role on the mound. They’ll have to find their groove on the mound with guys shuffling into new roles this Spring, but Cannon County expects to be in the thick of it with reigning state champ Watertown and Smith County. They're hopeful to push through the district this go around with a chance of putting together a quality postseason run.
