The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Eagles put together a very solid season as they were in the mix at the top of district 11. They played well in the district tourney to advance to region play, but they lost 3-2 at South GIbson County to bring their season to a close with a record of 17-14. They return a solid core of pitching and defense, but don’t have a wealth of experience. The headliner is ‘24 RHP/3B Hunter McLemore, who returns as the ace and has garnered D1 looks over the past year. He’ll handle duties at the hot corner as well and be a key bat in the meat of the order. ‘25 RHP/INF Dean Estes will serve as the no.2 arm and just fills up the zone at a high clip. Estes will pair with ‘25 SS/RHP Jayce Goff up the middle while Goff will provide depth on the mound. ‘24 1B/RHP Evan Schippers will be a veteran presence and throw significant innings on the mound. The Eagles have a deep sophomore class that should figure into the mix with: ‘25 RHP/1B Caleb Cole, ‘25 RHP/OF Chase Garner, and ‘25 C/INF Brooks Johnson. It will be a youthful bunch, but they have potential to be a strong contender to Hardin County, who has been the top of the district in recent years. Eyes are set on capturing a district title and advancing past the region for the first time since 2019.
