The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Bobcats finished 19-11 last season while advancing to the Region Semifinals where they lost a heartbreaker to White House Heritage. A program that is consistently competitive, but has yet to reach the state tournament (Sub-state appearance in 2021). Could this be the group that gets the Bobcats to the promised land? They’ll be battle tested in a tough 2A district 10 with Loretto, Summertown, Lewis County, and Mt. Pleasant, so any team that advances out of district must like their chances moving forward. The headliner is ‘23 LHP/UTL Jake Cardin, who is one of the top uncommitted prospects in the senior class. The southpaw can really pitch it and will hit in the middle of the order, coming off a district MVP last Spring. ‘23 RHP/UTL Riley Cardin will play all over the field and contribute on the mound as a starter or reliever. ‘23 RHP/INF Jake Harper will likely slot as the no. 2 arm after throwing a lot out of the bullpen and has a big bat in the middle of the order while also filling in at SS or 3B. ‘24 LHP/OF Carter Kelley has some athleticism and well rounded tools, which will allow another lefty arm in the mix and a lefty bat in a table setter role. ‘24 OF Kamuari Turner has been a consistent starter in the outfield and provides pressure on the base paths plus some pitching depth. ‘24 C/RHP Austin Kilpatrick returns behind the plate and will play a vital role on the mound for weekend games or district relief. They’ll have the pitching, speed, and defense, but lack bench depth so staying healthy will be key heading into the postseason. The Bobcats will certainly be in the mix and Coach Dustin Hill is hoping this group can get to the Spring Fling in May.
