The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Hawks turned in a solid season as they were in the mix at the top of district four. Unfortunately, the district tourney didn’t go their way and they finished the year 19-15. They return an experienced bunch with some key positions on defense and a frontend ace. ‘23 C Ty Denton (Troy Univ.) will be a key bat in the middle of the order and is a strong defender behind the plate. ‘24 SS Henry Ferguson (ETSU) returns up the middle with a strong glove and key offensive contributor. ‘23 RHP Adam Baker put together a strong season last year and returns as the ace of the staff. ‘23 UTL Carson Hoffmeister can play all over the field and provide a lefty bat in the lineup. ‘23 RHP Micah Hoffmeister will serve as the number two arm on the bump and will be relied on heavily. ‘24 OF Caleb Neely will provide some speed and man CF for HVA. ‘24 1B/RHP Jacob Dillon is a big body at first base and will contribute on the mound. ‘23 2B Austin Bolding and ‘25 2B Jaxon Jones will pair up the middle with Ferguson. ‘25 C Colton Denton is a physical bat and sound no.2 backstop behind his brother. ‘23 3B/RHP William Webb will man the hot corner and throw significant innings on the mound. Freshmen to watch is ‘26 SS/RHP Jax Sparks, who can plug in up the middle and should play a steady role on the mound. District four will be extremely competitive as always with defending champ Farragut, but also quality depth from top to bottom. They’ll need pitching depth to emerge and the offense to gel down the stretch, but HVA expects to be in the mix to make a postseason run this Spring.
