The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Raptors had an incredibly deep senior class last year and they rode that group to a sub-state appearance. They ultimately came up short at Hendersonville to finish the year 23-16. They’ll have to replace a good chunk of the lineup and a couple of arms, but they’ll have a lot of speed and should be solid defensively. A pair of all-district players are back in ‘23 1B/LHP Connor Paul (Vol State CC) and ‘23 C/3B JP Price. ‘23 SS Jacob Bly is a burner and will anchor up the middle with ‘24 2B Jake Schmidt. ‘23 3B/RHP Cooper Anderson will handle the hot corner and contribute on the mound. ‘23 C/DH Andrew Moser and ‘23 OF/RHP Chase Wingert are a couple of vets that will figure into the mix as well along with ‘24 OF Lucas Houston. On the mound, it will be a stable on arms that will rotate to matchup and stay fresh. ‘23 LHP Walker Kelley will lead the charge with Paul, ‘23 RHP Ryan Rhea, and Anderson. ‘24 RHP Carter Davis and ‘25 RHP Hiram Lewis are a couple of arms who could throw significant innings as well. The Raptors will have a handful of underclassmen to keep an eye on such as: ‘25 OF/LHP Tanner Binns, ‘26 OF/1B Michael Holt, ‘26 OF/1B Luke Paciorek, ‘26 C/INF Wyatt Severance, and ‘26 C/INF Sam Edwards. It will be a very different looking group in 2023 with less power in the lineup but an influx of speed as they’ll battle it out in the WillCo district.
