2023 Team Preview: Lake Belton Broncos

Brandon Gowins
Texas Scouting Director

The 2023 high school baseball season is underway with practice having started and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Austin at the State Tournament, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and eventually releasing our preseason Top 30 teams in the state.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week and updating the Top 30 teams in the state.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

Lake Belton is only in it's 3rd year, and it has 2 playoff appearances already.  This year, Lake Belton makes the jump from 4A to 5A, but the expectations remain the same.  With a good core of upper classmen, Coach Peacock and his staff are looking to make some noise their 1st year in 5A.

Offensively, Lake Belton will be led by OF/RHP Mason Gerrard (Temple JC) and Air Force commit Connor Bartz.  Bartz gives them the Sr. leadership and stability at shortstop and Gerrard provides some power potential from the OF position.  Sr. C Ty Jackson (Tyler JC) is the 3rd senior that will be looked upon to lead this team. He provides stability behind the plate.  Jr. OF Brandon Bell also returns after a good year last year, as well as Jr. Outfielder Peanut Brazzle.

On the mound, Lake Belton will be led by Gerrard, Bartz, and Jr. RHP Mason Law. Gerrard will get into the low 90's on the mound and gives them a chance in any game.  Law was a 1st team AD recipient last year on the mound, and he is looking to up his game more.

Lake Belton is still a relatively new school, but winning is becoming the standard for the Broncos and the '23 version should be the same.
