Prep Baseball Texas Staff

The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 30 rankings.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Kinkaid Falcons and Coach Steve Maas look to make a deeper postseason run in 2024 after a first round exit last season. Returning the majority of their roster from 2023, including six seniors and four juniors, it is easy to see why the Falcons should make a lot of noise within the SPC South this season.

Leading things off for the Falcons’ senior class is a trio of infielders in Nico Gomez (WashU Football), Andy Guy (uncommitted), and OF/CIF Richie Klosek (uncommitted). Next, the Falcons feature a trio of uncommitted outfielders in OF/RHP Miles Roeder, who should factor as a two-way player for the Falcons, as well as UTL Josh Sweetland and OF Carter Pitts. These six will make up the Falcons’ core for this season and will look to lead the younger guys that fill out the rest of the roster.

In the junior class, you have to start with Texas A&M commit RHP/OF Jack Paris (2025). Paris is currently ranked No. 359 nationally and No. 29 in the state, and should be a mainstay in the Falcons’ pitching rotation in 2024. Next, the Falcons’ junior class features a 2021 Junior Future Games participant in C/INF LJ Carrillo (2025), who could play numerous positions for the Falcons in 2024. Also filling out the junior class for Kinkaid is CIF Marcus Harris (uncommitted) and INF Cooper Chambers (uncommitted).

The Falcons have a pair of freshmen to monitor as they begin their high school careers this spring in RHP/OF Tripp Kneale and INF Thomas Smith. The freshmen pair gives Coach Maas a couple pieces to build around for the future as they begin their development in the program.

With how much experience the Falcons bring back, they should be playoff contenders again in 2024.
