CYPRESS, TX - The Battle for the number one spot in District 17-6A was up for grabs on Friday night. Crosstown rivals Cypress Woods and Cypress Ranch concluded a two game series which began on Tuesday when the underdog Wildcats upset the Mustangs 2-1 at Cy Ranch.

Both Teams entered Friday’s contest tied for first place with a 6-1 record in district. The Wildcats started left-hander Connor Elliott, while the Mustangs turned to right-hander Kel Bordwine.

Cy Ranch would get out to an early lead in the top of the first inning when Hayden Evans singled in a run and Westley Schields drove in two, putting the Mustangs up 3-0. Cy Ranch would not look back as they went on to score three runs in the second, three in the third, and one in the fourth, holding a commanding 10-0 lead.

Cy Woods would get on the board in the fourth, when Kyle McShaffry scored on a wild pitch. But that was the only run that Ranch starter Kel Bordwine would allow. Ranch would go on to score two more runs in the top of the sixth, and walk away with the 12-1 victory over Cy Woods.

Cy Ranch recorded 19 total hits, led by Eric Bonhert, Nick Cisneros, Colton Cowser, Lakon Pryor, and Matt Thompson, who all collected multiple hits.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 7-1 in district play, giving them sole possession of first place. Although the loss drops the Wildcats record to 6-2 and tied for 2nd place with Cy Fair, there are still four weeks left in the season.
