DFW Summer Open: Preview Story

PBR Texas Staff

On Tuesday, May 30, the PBR Texas staff will travel to Lake Dallas HS in N. Dallas, to host the DFW Summer Open. This event is currently set to host 60 players, including some familiar names and top prospects from the area.

Last year’s event helped us identify some DFW area talents that we’d not yet seen or had taken significant jumps in their development, like OF/RHP Brock Golwas (FM Marcus, 2025), who left this event as an arrow-up prospect after running a 6.64 60YD and throwing 86 from the OF. Another standout from the day was OF Caden Sorrell (FM Marcus, 2023), who ran a 6.57 60YD, threw 90 from the OF and took a great round of BP. Possibly the biggest pop up player from the event was RHP Caden Orr (Southlake Carroll, 2023), who hopped on the mound and was up to 92 with a clean arm action. Orr and Sorrell ended up showing well at State Games in the Fall as well.

There’s a handful of players headed to Lake Dallas on Tuesday who we’ve seen before and are excited to get an up-to-date look on, like OF/RHP Connor Davenport (Keller, 2026). We saw Davenport at the Midland Bulls Scout, early in 2022 and he earned a Junior Future Games Roster Spot after showing impressive all around tools.

We are looking forward to seeing INF Michael Winstead (Covenant Christian, 2025) again after he showed well at the DFW Fall ID in October. Winstead showcased his power in a clean round of BP where he was up to 90mph exit velo, as well as solid glovework in the INF.

One player on the roster that we have not seen in-event yet is OF Matthew Scott II (Klein Oak, 2024). Scott is a true power hitter with the ability to change the game with one swing at any moment. We have seen the 27th ranked player in the state show well in-game during high school season and are looking forward to having him out to Lake Dallas on Tuesday.
