Inside the 2025 Rankings - Pitchers

Brandon Gowins
Assistant Scouting Director

TEXAS - The 2025 National Rankings were recently released, and no surprise, the state of Texas was well represented with 26 of the 250 players residing in the Lone Star State. This class is well rounded and has a good mix of impact bats and high end arms.  As we roll out the initial State Rankings, there is a baseline for a deep class that will only continue to get deeper as their High School Careers play out.

As we finish our dive into the 1st edition of our 2025 State Rankings, we take a look at the Pitchers that  made our initial list.  As always, the state of Texas has some future power arms in this class along with some players that can really pitch.

Pitchers

Luke Billings OF / RHP / Prosper , TX / 2025

Luke Billings, our #1 player in the state, is a true two way talent at the next level.  On the mound the RHP has a good blend of present stuff with plenty of upside left.  He will get up to 87 with his fb and shows both a breaking ball and change up that have a chance to be above avg. down the road.  He still has plenty of weight and strength to put on, so I would expect some big jumps in the future.

Tye Briscoe LHP / 1B / Abilene Wylie, TX / 2025

Coming in at 4 overall in the state, LHP Tye Briscoe (Arkansas Commit). The Southpaw out of Abilene burst onto the scene last summer pitching up and not only held his own, but at times dominated. The Fastball tops out at 88, and he has the ability to beat you in the zone with it. He also shows the potential for two above average off-speed pitches. The mechanics are clean and he has a low effort delivery that he repeats well.

Jack Mckernan LHP / OF / Ridge Point, TX / 2025

The number 3 pitcher in the state is LHP Jack Mckernan. The future Longhorn has a fastball that he can run up to 88 and locate in and out.  He also flashes a low 70’s breaking ball that he can throw for strikes and bury it to put away hitters.  He repeats his mechanics well and shows some real arm speed.

Minjae Seo RHP / John Paul II, TX / 2025

Minjae Seo is next on the list.  And the Vanderbilt commit has some of the best blend of pitchability and stuff in the state. He flashes 3 above avg. pitches, including a FB that has been up to 88. He has a true swing and miss curveball that he can manipulate in and out of the zone. He also flashes an advanced change up for his age. Seo will be a must watch this spring, as he is part of a loaded Jon Paul II Pitching Rotation.

Jack Paris RHP / 1B / Kinkaid , TX / 2025

Texas A&M commit Jack Paris comes in next on the list. The Houston Kinkaid Freshman has a good blend of current stuff plus plenty of upside to dream on.  The Fastball will get into the mid 80’s with some sink, and plays up with a shorter arm stroke that allows him to hide the ball well.  He also has a quality breaking ball that shows good shape and plays off the fastball nicely.

Ryan Bevington RHP / 1B / Strake Jesuit, TX / 2025

Next, is the physical Right Hander, Ryan Bevington.  The TCU commit has a big fastball that will get up to 88 and continues to climb.  He shows a breaking ball that has potential to be a plus pitch down the road. He shows a smooth delivery with clean arm action, and has the look of a future workhorse.

Lance Jackson / Pleasant Grove, TX / 2025

The most physically impressive kid in this class may be Lance Jackson from Pleasant Grove HS.  The 6’5 RHP already has offers from SEC schools for football as a Defensive End.  On the mound, the physical righty shows a FB that gets into the upper 80’s with ease. For his size and age, the mechanics are clean and he shows good arm speed to go with the present strength.

Cooper Rummel / Dripping Springs, TX / 2025

Dripping Springs HS has two Arms on the list, and the 1st one is Cooper Rummel. The 6’3 RHP is a physical presence on the mound. His fastball has been up to 89 and it plays up at the top part of the strike zone. He shows a mid 70’s breaking ball that compliments his fastball. For a 15 yr old at that size, Rummel shows an ability to repeat his mechanics and pound the strike zone.

Marcos Paz RHP / Hebron, TX / 2025

Marcos Paz, The Hebron HS product, has a low effort delivery that he repeats well and makes his upper 80’s fastball play up.  Has a developing breaking ball that shows good promise when he stays on top of it. Paz is also a future QB1 on the gridiron as well. I expect some big jumps from him this coming Spring and Summer.

Juan Diego Amescua SS / RHP / Central Catholic , TX / 2025

Righty Juan Diego Amescua is next. The projectable righty has a Fastball that will get into the mid 80’s with plenty more to come.  He has a short arm stroke and hides the ball well. He has the makings of a good breaking ball and as the velocity comes, it has a chance to be a difference maker.

Taylor Tracey / Dripping Springs, TX / 2025

The 2nd Dripping Springs HS pitcher on the list is 6’4 LHP Taylor Tracey. He may have the highest upside of anyone in the state.  The lanky lefty has a fastball that sits in the low to mid 80’s and plays up when he is synced up and gets out front.  As he continues to put on weight and grow into his frame, I expect the velocity to take big jumps.Tracey will be a must follow, and wouldn’t be surprised to see him be one of the biggest risers in this class throughout the next year.

Ethan Hunt RHP / Hebron, TX / 2025

Ethan Hunt, RHP from Hebron HS, is one of the more intriguing arms in the state.  He hasn’t pitched much the last few years, but the upside is evident when you see him throw. He has a projectable frame at 6’4, and the big righty shows a mid to upper 80’s fastball that projects for plenty more down the road. He will be a must see this spring.
