Lake Travis vs. Austin Bowie

AUSTIN, TX – Behind an outstanding performance by 2019 RHP and LSU signee Jimmy Lewis, Lake Travis, on the road, defeated Bowie 5-0. In front of roughly 20 scouts, including crosscheckers and scouting directors, Lewis dazzled, and received some help at the plate from teammate Brett Baty.

Lewis nearly gave his defense the night off thanks to his strike-throwing and dominance, and also helped himself at the plate with a two-RBI base hit to give Lake Travis a commanding, 4-0 lead in the fourth inning. Ahead of him hitting leadoff, Baty was a constant presence on the bases.

Bowie senior outfielder and Penn signee Seth Werchan recorded the only hit off Lewis. Jett Warner, a 2020 infielder, put some pressure on Lewis early with a first-inning walk.

Lake Travis
Lewis: 6.0 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 11 K
Lewis: 2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI
Baty: 2-for-2, 1 R, 1 RBI, BB, HBP, SB
Plante: 1-for-3, BB, SB

Bowie
Werchan: 1-for-3, 2 SB
Warner: 0-for-2, BB

SCOUT NOTES

Listed at 6-6, 210 pounds, Lewis has an athletic frame with length, and although he’s beginning to fill out a little more, the frame still shows projection. Despite being 6-6, Lewis showed coordination and athleticism in his delivery, and also as a baserunner; a quick worker with a fairly simple windup, college or pro development will be able to tweak his delivery to unlock more from his physical gifts, but the combination of mechanics, athleticism, and coordination should excite scouts.

Sometimes, pitchers with Lewis’s length and height show long, stiff arm action. However, Lewis’s arm worked quickly, confidently, and smoothly through the back (short action in the back) and out in front. As Lewis plants and releases, he shows tilted shoulders, which at times causes him to pull his fastball to his glove side but didn’t affect his ability to locate or repeat. Rated as the No. 33 high school prospect in the country and No. 82 MLB Draft prospect, the Lake Travis product incorporated his backside into his delivery with an athletic leg kick that at times swung his body around at finish.
