LONGVIEW, TX - Always enjoy making the trip out to East Texas and last Friday night we had a chance to catch Kilgore vs. Spring Hill in a big 4A matchup between two quality teams. Kilgore won the first game between these two clubs on Tuesday 5-1, and came into the night with a 13-4 Overall record. Spring Hill entered with a 12-4-1 record and had big left-hander Hunter Hollan on the mound.

Kilgore came out swinging as soon as the bell rang, throwing up a three spot in the first inning. Deuce Ervin led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Then 2019 SS/RHP Gus Witt(Weatherford) sent a hanging slider deep over the left field wall for a 2-run homer. 2019 C Khalon Clayton doubled to centerfield and moved up on a passed ball, and 2020 Jayce McFarland hit a sac fly to centerfield. Kilgore up 3-0.

Spring Hill got a run back in the bottom of the first and second inning to get within striking distance, but it was the fourth inning that would prove to be the difference in the game. With one on and two outs, 2020 Dylan Hutchison doubled to left field to tie the game at 3. The Panthers offense wasnt done, after a Lipsey infield single, and a Kilgore error, they scored 4 more runs with two outs to go up 7-3, highlighted by a 2 RBI double.

Spring Hill’s 2020 LHP Hunter Hollan (Texas A&M) settled in after the first inning, putting up four consecutive zero’s. He struck out the side in the second, and got two more punchouts in the fourth.

Kilgore got a run in the 6th when 2020 RHP/1B Chase Hampton (Texas Tech) hammered a solo home run to right-centerfield to bring the score to 7-4. But Spring Hill responded in the bottom half of the inning when Caden Noah hit a towering home run with two outs for a Grand Slam. Hollan worked a clean seventh, recording his 7th and 8th strikeouts of the night.

Final Score: Spring Hill 11, Kilgore 4.
