Prep Baseball Invitational Scout Blog: Hitters

PBR Texas Staff

TEXAS - Over the weekend, we hosted the Prep Baseball Texas Invitational in DFW at Flower Mound, Denton Guyer, VR Eaton and Little Elm. The field consisted of quality programs from around the state including, DFW, El Paso, and Houston. Our scouting staff was able to see a lot of good prospects on the weekend and today, we highlight some of the hitters that stood out.

+ 2024 CIF Adrian Rodriguez - Flower Mound - Texas A&M Commit
Rodriguez had himself an outstanding weekend offensively and also showed off some defensive skills at his new position shortstop. The future Aggie finished the weekend batting .500, including 2 big home runs that helped the Jags go undefeated on the weekend. Rodriguez's swing is more advanced from the left side, and he really is showing his power in the game from that side. The biggest development was the quality of his play at shortstop throughout the weekend. He showed good range laterally and made all of the plays he was supposed to. That is a big development for the Jags and for Rodriguez’s future.

+ 2024 OF Sam Erickson - Flower Mound - Texas A&M Commit
The other Texas A&M recruit in the Jags offense is Erickson. The center fielder is batting leadoff for Flower Mound, and did a really good job of taking his walks, as he wasn’t pitched too often. He still managed some hits and had a couple loud barrels throughout the weekend. Erickson also played a good center and made a highlight reel catch in right center.

The Arkansas recruit looked good on both sides of the ball throughout the weekend. He is one of the best receivers in the state and does a great job of handling the Flower Mound pitching staff. At the plate, Becker batted cleanup and always has quality ab’s. He shows good bat speed and the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the field.

+ 2024 OF Garrett Wallace - Flower Mound - Louisiana Tech Commit
Wallace sat out Thursday’s games with a hamstring, but was back for Friday and Saturday and had multiple hits. The Louisiana Tech recruit showed some juice to the opposite field, driving multiple balls the other way with authority. Wallace is still growing into his projectable frame, and I think the power will continue to develop. He is an above average runner and can beat you in multiple ways.

+ 2024 INF Sam Distel - Flower Mound - Howard JC Commit
The Howard JC recruit is up this year in the 2 hole, and he delivered time after time this weekend. Distel does a good job of working counts and not trying to do too much. He stays in the big part of the field and takes what the pitcher gives him. He did a good job left on left as well, fighting off tough pitches and having multiple hits. Distel having success in the 2 hole really lengthens the Jaguars offense as we gear up for District Play.

Partida is one of the best baseball players in the state regardless of class. The future Sun Devil made his presence felt all weekend. He had multiple home runs including 2 in one game, and had multiple extra base hits.He has some present strength with good bat speed, and the power has really ticked up this year. He bats leadoff for Pearland and he sets the tone for that entire lineup. He played well defensively and showed off his plus arm.

One of the players I was really impressed with in the games I saw him was Cleveland. The catcher is committed to Cisco and he showed well on both sides of the ball. Physical build with some strength, Cleveland should hold up behind the plate.  He was consistently around 2.0 in warmups with his pop times and I thought he handled the pitching staff well. He had multiple good ab’s and had some barrels when I saw him.  Cleveland is a good defensive catcher who offers some offensive upside, those guys are usually in high demand at the next level.

+ 2024 OFMiles Syptak - Bridgeland - UT Arlington Commit
The UTA recruit was another hitter who had multiple bomb’s on the weekend and had 2 in one game. Sypatek is a bouncy athlete who glides in centerfield. He has the tools to really impact the game in multiple ways.  There is plus bat speed with strength, and as the hit tool continues to get more consistent, Sypatek is seeing the power take a jump.  Sypatek is part of a really good high school class that Coach Van Hook is assembling.

+ 2024 INF Fisher Polydoroff - Keller - Weatherford College Commit
Polydoroff continues to show he is one of the better hitters in the metroplex. The future Weatherford Coyote can really hit and has a sound approach. He gets in good counts and has a good feel for the strike zone. Polydoroff had a bomb and multiple barrels on the weekend. He can drive the ball to right center with authority as well, and it makes him hard to pitch to. He is the catalyst for the Keller lineup.

+ 2024 OF Brady Reeves - Keller - NCTC Commit
One of the better weekends belonged to Reaves. The North Central Texas JC recruit had 2 bombs including a walkoff in the rain and cold on day 1.  On a day when it didn’t seem a ball could get out at Flower Mound, Reaves hit one into the teeth of the wind for a walkoff dub.  He had one later in the weekend that was an absolute no doubter. Reaves has some physicality to him and lengthens their power potential in the lineup.

+ 2025 C Jake Scheiden - Keller - Uncommitted
I thought Schedien was a real star this weekend for Keller. The junior backstop was really good behind the plate, and on the barrel pretty much all weekend. Schedien had a homerun but he also had a lot of barrel off some of the best arms in the tournament. For as good as his weekend was, it could have been better, as he hit multiple balls hard that turned into outs. He is a good receiver and blocker behind the plate. His arm is good enough and he is an accurate thrower. It takes a plus catcher to win it all, and Keller has that in Schedien.

The LHH hits in the 3 hole for the Wildcats and wants to do damage every time he steps in the box. He had a great weekend, racking up hits and rarely missing his pitch when he got it. The barrel stays in the zone for a long time and he has plenty of rhythm and confidence at the plate. With 9 hits on the weekend, Murillo was a big part of Guyer’s success. He had a walk off gap shot on Friday night after a hard fought game by both teams.

+ 2024 INF/RHP Hawk Bowers - Denton Guyer - McLennan Commit
Bowers leads off for the Wildcats and is a tough out. He has good barrel skills and doesn’t try to do too much. He looks comfortable against good arms, and isn’t ever overmatched. He plays 3B mostly but can move to SS if needed. The McLennan commit shows some athleticism as well as baseball IQ in all facets of the game.

+ 2025 1B Asher Martinez - Denton Guyer - Uncommitted
Martinez hits in the clean-up spot and had 3 RBI on Thursday for Guyer. He plays 1B and can pick it a little. He continued to find the barrel and drive in runs for the rest of the weekend. An uncommitted bat with some pop to keep an eye on.

+ 2026 OF Jacob Pruett - Denton Guyer
The sophomore cracked the starting lineup for Guyer in five of the six games on the weekend. He looked good in RF, showing off a strong arm a few times. He has a compact swing and found the barrel a few times. He walked it off on Thursday night on a hard hit line drive over the SS. he will be a fun one to watch as he continues to add strength.

+ 2024 INF Hunter Gural - Denton Guyer - Uncommitted
Gural is an uncommitted INF that provides some pop out of the 2 hole. He had 2 home runs on the weekend and a double that almost snuck out of the yard. After looking overmatched in his first at bat against a good arm, he made an adjustment in his second at bat and got his timing down. This was important to me and proves that he can hang with tough arms.
The McLennan recruit has a frame to dream on. He got a good swing off on a no doubt grand slam on Saturday to LF at Guyer. Irons looks good at 1B as well. He made an over the shoulder catch deep in foul territory, then turned around and threw out the runner at home trying to tag. He also made another diving catch in foul territory that no one in the park thought he had a chance at.  He picks it well and you can tell he takes pride in his defending.

The physical uncommitted 2025 had a great weekend at the plate. A grand slam on Thursday, followed by a two double game on Friday off of a tough arm. The LHH has some pop and is a good bat to follow this spring.

Cortinas came up big for the Falcons on Saturday. They were down 4 runs and he hit a grand slam to tie the game and get his team back in the fight. Big frame with some pop and can play multiple positions.

+ 2024 OF Paul Herrera - El Paso Eastlake - Uncommitted
Uncommitted 2024 OF showed more physicality this year and showed he can drive the ball in the gap with ease and be a run producer for the Eastlake offense, having 4 hits on Friday over 2 games with 3 RBI.

The Howard commit had a very solid weekend at the plate, recording at least 1 hit in all 6 games with 2 2Bs and HR. The 6-4, 220-pound switch-hitting catcher uses the whole field very well going from line to line. Also had a really good weekend behind the plate too, throwing out 3 runners in 1 game.
The Texas A&M commit was causing havoc on the basepaths all weekend, stealing 9 bases over the course of 6 games, while reaching base 11 times and finishing off the weekend finding the barrel for a liner right back up the middle.
