In a match-up between historically strong programs, the Franklin County Eagles hosted the William Byrd Terriers in a non-conference game in Rocky Mount.  Both schools are off to a rocky start with Byrd dropping their first three games and Franklin County winning one of four to begin the season.

Eagles starting pitcher, senior righty Nick Robertson (James Madison University), was impressive right from the start fanning three in the first two innings, and was instrumental in the Eagles’ offense side in the third inning.  Back to back walks to senior Hunter Barbour (King) and Noah Davis brought Robertson to the plate with a chance to stake his team to a lead and he did not let down the home folks.  With the count 1-1, the six foot six hurler belted a triple into the right centerfield alley scoring both runners and grabbing a 2-0 lead and scored on a ground out.

A very scrappy Terrier team battled throughout and scored in the sixth when Justin Wimmer scored on a Max Kinney RBI single and again in the seventh with Will Culicerto scored Mitchel Lyle’s RBI single.  However, time ran out on Byrd tonight sending the Terriers down to a 4-2 loss.
