At the end of each calendar year, the PBR Wisconsin Staff highlights the 10 most viewed profiles of 2023 in the state of Wisconsin. Today, we’ll be continuing our way up to the top spot with No. 8 and unveiling the No. 1 most viewed profile Dec. 30.

After a prolific year, RHP/INF Brayden Olson (St. Croix Falls, 2023; Purdue) slots in as the No. 8 most-viewed profile in the state of Wisconsin for 2023.

Olson’s year began with a loud showing at the Midwest ProCase in February. The 6-foot-2 right-hander stood in with a strong frame and supplemented said frame with a whippy and loose arm action. At the ProCase, the 2021 Prep Baseball Future Games participant topped his fastball at 93.9 mph and foreshadowed what was to come for his 2023 season.

After recording an ERA of 0.00 during his junior season, Olson continued his dominance during his final year. Throughout his time as a prep prospect in Wisconsin, Olson has received multiple PBR Player of the Week awards and also earn PBR Wisconsin First-Team All-State honors for the second year in a row. Here is what our staff had to say regarding his illustrious senior season:

"The Purdue commit earned First Team All-State honors based on his two-way performances at the plate, on the infield, and on the mound. Offensively, Olson hit .400 with a whopping 25 extra base hits, accumulating 11 home runs in the process, including one at Fox Cities Stadium in the State Semifinals. The right-hander had 36 RBI and scored 40 times, once again solidifying himself as one of the top 2023s in the Badger State. On the mound, the senior threw 62.1 innings on the bump, leading the Saints with an unblemished 11-0 record. His flawlessness on the mound led him to finish with a 0.67 ERA and an even lower WHIP, sitting at 0.56. Olson struck out a whopping 130 batters and only allowed six earned runs, dominating his opponents from the start of the season, all the way to the end. His two-way abilities get him on an All-State list for the third straight season, as he has finished as a first-teamer in his final two seasons of high school baseball."

Olson’s achievements and success continued all the way until the final day of the WIAA season. At Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton for the State Tournament, Olson twirled a complete game gem, tallying 12 strikeouts while sitting in the high-80s to the low-90s to advance St. Croix Falls to the D3 State Championship game, while also smacking a deep home run - but more on St. Croix Falls and their state run later this week.

Since graduating in the spring, Olson has moved on to Purdue where he is already off and running during his freshman campaign. After a quality fall, Olson is expected to make an impact on the mound right away for the Boilermakers come the regular season and he has already seen his stuff tick up, too. While it is hard to say exactly where Olson will fit into the Boilermakers’ rotation, it is certain that no matter where it is, he is capable of succeeding and even surpassing expectations.

Olson is a relaxed, athletic mover with lots of leverage throughout the delivery. He’s grown taller since the 2021 PBR Future Games, and has filled into a much more physically imposing stature. He appears taller than he’s listed (6-foot-1), and you can see his efforts this offseason improve his measurements across the diamond. Olson possesses easy arm speed, and plenty of upside left to grow into. His stuff on the mound has the makings of a very tough starter’s profile, with natural throwing instincts that appears to be sustainable long-term, utilizing a long loop momentum capture while delivering from a 5-foot-9 average release height. He’s turned himself into a high motor worker with a large deck of pitch design options for the savvy pitching coach at the next level. As his velo continues to steadily rise here in mid-February, it’s easy to expect this sleeper to make some noise in 2022 and beyond, even as a position player.

In the box, he stands tall and strides from open to square. Relaxed throughout his moves, and quality feel for the barrel entering the zone. Olson showed some pull-side pop that was representative of his top notch spring numbers in ‘21, reaching a max exit speed of 94.9 mph and the farthest average batted distance (287 feet), with a 340-foot best. He’s also a quality defender on the dirt with the same powerful arm that helps shape a profile at the hot corner, perhaps.
