Kirk JenningsGeorge Washington, No. 5 in the most recent Metro News AA Power Rankings,  used solid fundamental offensive execution in defeating No. 3 Cabell Midland.  Brayden Mcallister and Preston Taylor singled and advanced to second and third with nobody out to lead off the game.   They then scored on a sacrafice fly and safety squeeze to  give the Patriots a 2-0 lead.

Cabell Midland got one back in their half of the inning on singles by Trey Chapman (No.25 in the WV Class of 2019 rankings) and Kirk Jennings (No.3 in the WV Class of 2017 rankings, top right), followed by a Peyton Weekly (currently No. 20 in the WV Class of 2019 rankings) sacrifice fly.

George Washington extended the lead to 4-1 in the third on a Taylor single, two Cabell Midland miscues and a run scoring fielder's choice ground ball.  After the Patriots had added one in the fourth without a hit to make the score 5-1,  the Knights were able to claw back into the game in the fifth. Singles by Tanner Brandon and Jennings accompanied by some control issues from the mound put two on the board for a 5-3 deficit.

The Patriots put the game away in the seventh on doubles by McCallister and Aiden Johnson (currently No. 5 in the WV Class of 2019 rankings) as well as a Josh Petit (currently No.10 in WV Class of 2017 rankings, bottom right) single for the 7-3 final score.Josh Petit
