PBR's WIAA Playoff Predictions

By Steve Nielsen

The WIAA state playoffs begin tomorrow June 3 with the first round of regional action. Several of the top teams have first round byes and will begin action either June 4th or 5th.

The Prep Baseball Report website will host up to date brackets for all of the Division 1 sectionals which you can find under on the WIAA Playoffs tab HERE.

As the playoffs are about to kick off we have filled out our brackets and made our predictions for all four Divisions starting with Sectional play. Here???s a look at who we think will be holding the hardware in Appleton.

Division 1

We picked Stevens Point as our preseason favorite in the Preseason Power 25 and were sticking with it. The depth of their pitching staff should bode well for the Panthers and gained invaluable experience from last year???s run. Hortonville also has some much needed experience and senior leadership, their earlier than anticipated exit from the playoffs last year should give them the extra incentive to get to Appleton and a shot at the title in 2014.

Division 2

Early in the season it didn???t look anyone would be able to compete with Jefferson in Division 2, no-hitting nearly everyone they faced, but the Denmark Vikings have proven that they have just as good a pitching staff if not better and our prediction to win the Division 2 title. The possible state semifinal matchup of Jefferson and Denmark is probably going to deliver the state champion as the other side of the bracket doesn???t compete with those two teams.

Division 3

Rosholt has been on an impressive run in Division 3, Rosholt hasn???t lost a game since April and looks to be hot enough to keep that going all the way to the state finals. Wisconsin Heights could be a road block with a strong group of players but were predicting Rosholt to take the crown.

Division 4

The Division 4 bracket looks to be a no doubter. Lake County Lutheran has been on a terror all season, yet to lose a game, it doesn???t look like anyone can stop the Lightning. LCL has given up only 28 runs on the season in 27 games, at that clip there is no reason that LCL shouldn???t be state champs in Appleton.
