Playoff Roundup: Division 2-4 Sectionals

Division 2

In a big match up of Waupun and Racine St. Catherine’s Waupun was able to shut down the offensive firepower of St. Catherine’s and punch their ticket to Appleton. Waupun will take on Lodi in the State Semifinals. The other State Semifinal is still to be decided as weather postponed the Denmark and Viroqua Sectionals.

Waupun Sectional

Waupun 5, Waupaca 4
The Waupun Warriors and Waupaca traded the lead several times on Tuesday, but Waupun ended up on top with a 5-4 win in seven innings over Waupaca.

The Warriors won in walk-off fashion thanks to a sacrifice fly by Ryan Schmitt scoring Colin DeBoer to send Waupun to the Sectional Championship game.

Schmitt got the win in relief for Waupun. Schmitt pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed no runs.

Waupun jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. A solo blast by Buchholz started the inning off.

Racine St. Catherine’s 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 0
Angels’ starter Eric Eitel kept Wisconsin Lutheran off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on just two hits while ringing up three.

Eric Weisbrod had two hits for St. Catherine’s I the win.

Sectional Championship: Waupun 1, Racine St. Catherine’s 0
St. Catherine's Derek Heffel pitched six strong innings, but the Angels provided little run support, allowing Waupun to steal a 1-0 win Tuesday in the Waupun Sectional Cahmpionship.

Waupun didn't provide Bryce Buchholz with much support, but he didn't need much. Buchholz pitched seven strong innings to carry Waupun to a 1-0 win over St. Catherines. Buchholz got the win for Waupun, pitching seven shutout innings. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered just six hits.

The fifth inning saw Waupun score its only run on the day on an RBI single by Jared Larsen.

Evansville Sectional

Wisconsin Dells 10, River Valley 1
River Valley didn't stand a chance on Tuesday, as Wisconsin Dells captured a blowout 10-1 win in seven innings.

Wisconsin Dells scored five runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Ashton Mace, a two-run single by Nick Percival, a single by Zach VanWie, and an RBI double by Dakota Musiedlak.

VanWie boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate to pace Chiefs offense.

Colyn Buss struck out eight, paving the way for a Wisconsin Dells win. Buss allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk over four innings.

Lodi 2, Edgerton 0

Sectional Championship: Lodi 6, Wisconsin Dells 3
Colyn Buss did all he could to give Wisconsin Dells a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Lodi, as the Chiefs lost 6-3 in seven innings at Evansville on Tuesday.

Wisconsin Dells was led by Buss' hitting. Buss went 2-for-3 and scored one run. He singled in the fourth and seventh innings.

Denmark Sectional

Division 3

All but one sectional finished play on Tuesday. Oconto will await the winner of Chequamegon vs. Osseo-Fairchild as Westby in Deerfield will face off in the State Semifinals.

Division 4

The Division 4 Sectional got off without a hitch on Tuesday and four sectional champions were crowned and headed to Appleton. Potosi, Lake Country Lutheran, Greenwood and Wausaukee will all play on Wednesday June 12 in the State Semifinals. Greenwood will take on Wausaukee in one semifinal and Potosi will play Lake Country Lutheran in the other.

Weston Sectional

Barneveld Sectional

Lake Country Lutheran 6, Randolph 4
Jacob Budnik racked up two RBI on two hits for the Lake Country Lutheran Lightning. He singled in the second and sixth innings.

Ben Wilkins got the win for the Lightning despite allowing four runs over 6 1/3 innings. Wilkins struck out eight, walked three and gave up seven hits.

Randolph jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. AJ Alexander singled to ignite Randolph's offense. Jay Peters later singled, scoring Alexander and Kyle Roberts. Randolph pushed more runs across when Peters scored on an RBI single by Clark and Clark later scored on a passed ball.

Lake Country Lutheran stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fourth, scoring two runs on a passed ball and an RBI single by BJ Sabol.

Catholic Central 6, Barneveld 1

Sectional Championship: Lake Country Lutheran 8, Catholic Central 7
Things looked bleak for the Lake Country Lutheran Lightning when they trailed by five runs in the fourth inning, but the Lightning recovered thanks to a key RBI in the sixth inning from Jacob Simons to pull out an 8-7 win in seven innings over Catholic Central.

Jesse Turner had two extra-base hits for Lake Country Lutheran. He singled in the third inning, homered in the fifth inning, and doubled in the sixth inning.

Turner got the win for the Lake Country Lutheran. He allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Turner struck out four, walked two and gave up four hits.
