Wisconsin Pro Ball Update

With most minor league seasons complete and the MLB regular season winding down we will take a look at how some Wisconsin High School players fared in pro ball.

Heller Makes Debut

RHP Ben Heller (Whitewater, 2009) had a whirlwind season starting out at Double-A Akron with the Indians Organization before being moved up to Triple-A Columbus. In Columbus Heller posted a 2.49 ERA in 28 relief appearances and holding opposing hitters to a .217 average. At the deadline Heller was traded to the Yankees along with fellow Wisconsinite J.P. Feyerisen (River Falls, 2011) and others for Andrew Miller.

Heller made his debut for the Yankees on August 26th against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium. He worked one perfect inning reaching 97 mph with his fastball. He has since gone on to appear in six more games out of the Yankees pen as of today.

J.P. Feyereisen was drafted in the 16th round out of UW-Stevens Point in 2014. He had a big year out of the pen for Double-A Akron and Trenton finishing with a 1.70 ERA in 58.1 innings. Feyereisen struck out 78 hitters and held opponents to a .185 batting average. He will pitch for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League.

Lux Excels in First Season

Gavin LuxSS Gavin Lux (Indian Trail, 2016) had a memorable spring this year culminating in being the 20th overall selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lux debuted June 20th for the AZL Dodgers. In 48 games in the Arizona League Lux hit .281 with ten doubles and five triples. He was moved up to Ogden for their playoff run and hit .387 in eight games.

College Picks Impress in First Season


OF Alex Call (River Falls, 2013) was drafted in the 3rd round by the Chicago White Sox and hit .308 across two levels finishing up at Low-A Kannapolis. Call posted a .394 OBP and hit six home runs, driving in 35.

Clark EaganOF Clark Eagan (Appleton North, 2013) went in the 9th round to the Pittsburgh Pirates and hit .277 this year in the New York-Penn League.






OF Taylor Kohlwey (Holmen, 2012) was taken by the Padres in the 21st round this year out of UW-La Crosse. Kohlwey hit .260 across three levels, making it to High-A Lake Elsinore where he hit .302 in 13 games.

Submarining RHP Tyler Frohwirth (Brookfield Academy, 2012) was drafted by the Phillies in the 31st round out of Minnesota State. In 18 games out of the pen for the GCL Phillies Frohwirth posted a 2.08 ERA.

LHP Jordan Jess (Ripon, 2011) was drafted in the 31st round out of Minnesota by the Pirates. Jess pitched in 17 games out of the pen for the Bristol Pirates. Jess converted 7 of 9 save opportunities posting a 2.55 ERA.
