Uncommitted Spotlight: 2026 SS/OF Cory Dean Carver

As we wrap up the 2023 season, we now continue our coverage of the talent we've seen so far this year in Colorado with 'Uncommitted Spotlights' of the top prospects still on the board in the sophomore class. While there's already prospects in the class committed to programs already, there remains a slew of high-end talent still available.

These spotlights help paint a picture of the prospect with the help of our TrackMan, Blast Motion, Swift Performance and Vizual Edge systems, that provides objective data that teams use to identify and break down players they believe will fit into their system.

Today, we continue our Top Uncommitted Spotlights with a look at 2026 SS/OF Cory Dean Carver of Montezuma Cortez HS. Cory is the #1 ranked shortstop in the Colorado 2026 class and comes with some quality tools. The top exit-velocity on Cory is up to 94 mph while he runs a 6.94 60 yard dash and plays a clean infield. Cory also impressed at the 2023 Colorado State Games thanks to racking up the base-hits, being a menace on the basepaths, and flat-out playing the game hard all around. We can also tell you that as a freshman at the 3A level in Colorado this spring, Cory hit .486 (105 at-bats) with 6 home runs, a 1.447 OPS, and 36 stolen bases in 28 games. The sophomore is worth a close follow as he continues to develop his high ceiling heading into the 2024 season.

Positional Profile: SS/OF Follow for grade, high athleticism with some strength.
Body: 5-7, 143-pounds. Strong and athletic build.
Hit: RHH. Slightly bent at the knees, feet shoulder width apart, hands at shoulder, bat angle upright, bat wiggle. Load onto backside, medium leg kick, longer stride, active lower half, rotational top half, short to the baseball, in and out of the zone at times. 67.9 mph bat speed with 17 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: Line drive swing with active power.
Arm: RH. INF-84 mph. OF-86 mph. Medium arm swing out of a 3/4 arm slot.
Defense: Outfield: Fields the ball out front, funnels to chest, works through target, longer transfer and release. Infield: Prep step, athletic feet, works around target, quality hands and range.
ATH: 6.94 runner in the 60. 1.70 and 3.85 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.

Body: 5-7, 140-pounds. Young, lean and athletic frame with room to add size and strength.
Hits: RHH. Upright, wide base and even, hands shoulder high with some wiggle. Leg lift starts the swing, landing even, direct bat path to the ball with extension through the middle, creating above average bat speed.
Power: 89 max exit velocity, averaged 85.7 MPH. 292' max distance. Shows bat to ball skill right now with flashes of developing power.
Arm: RH. INF-79 mph.OF-80 mph. Moderate arm swing coming through a High 3/4 slot, with ability to work from different angles.
Defense: Low set-up, walks into ready position, fields ball out in front, funnels to middle, hands are a little stiff but work, clean transfer.
