By Phil Wade

On Saturday, February 22, PBR Indiana hosted its annual Preseason All-State Showcase at Westfield High School in Westfield, IN. A record 153 players within the 2015-2017 classes participated in the event, including 78 pitchers.

Of the 78 arms, 52 touched 80 mph or higher, 12 were 85 mph or higher, and 8 were 86 mph or higher.
2015 LHP Ryan Bettcher, and 2016 LHP Andrew Saalfrank recorded the highest fastball velocity for southpaws at 87 mph.

Below we analyze six standout left handed arms from the event...

1. Andrew Saalfrank, LHP, Heritage HS, 2016:  6-foot-3, 185 pound projectable lefty was up to 87 mph with the fastball, sitting 84-86 with good run.  He throws  from a high ¾ slot with an athletic arm action.  Possesses good rhythm throughout the delivery with easy effort.  Showcased good feel for a plus curveball at 74-75 mph with a sharp, late break.  He also mixes in a 75-76 mph slider.  Changeup was 72-76 and still needs developed.  Saalfrank is high follow in the 2016 class.
